1/16/18 | Elliotte Friedman writes that the Rangers will listen on McDonagh and Zuccarello, "but only if given good reason to pursue." (Sportsnet)
1/13/18 | On Hockey Night in Canada, Elliotte Friedman said "the Rangers in a playoff spot but got lit up by Matt Barzal and the Islanders earlier today, I think the Rangers are starting to look and say 'are there other moves that we can make, similar to the one with Derek Stepan and Arizona at last years draft."
He added, "I think you are taking a look at their UFAs, Nash, Grabner, David Desharnais. I think some of their contracted players, Zuccarello and McDonagh, no guarantee that they do it, but I think they are willing to listen.
Adam Rotter: My belief, as stated earlier this week, is that this is a playoff team that should not sell and that if Henrik Lundqvist is on his game, they can still make a run. That said, today was the kind of game that makes you think about being sellers and, in some way, dismantling more of the core that has been together a while.
I don't think the Rangers, unless they send multiple players to one team, will get a ton for their pending UFAs. I actually think Michael Grabner could net the most, especially with how little Rick Nash has produced this year. There is also the chance that the Rangers do decide to sell some players but still make the playoffs because Henrik Lundqvist carries them there.
Then there is the Ryan McDonagh question The Rangers should listen on him and the price should be set at a level where if a team were to offer that much, it would be worth it to the Rangers. I think it's unlikely and that ultimately the Rangers re-sign Ryan McDonagh, but if someone is willing to pay a lot, and include young players that could step in, that would be something the Rangers would have to seriously consider.
