According to Tankathon, the Rangers would have the 10th best odds to capture the first pick in the draft.
Adam Rotter: The Rangers are very unlikely to make the playoffs. They might be close in terms of points, but nearly every other team has games in hand, especially Florida with four. If the Rangers find a way to cut the shots against in half, Henrik Lundqvist stops all of them, Ryan Spooner stays hot, Pavel Buchnevich and Jimmy Vesey get going and the young defense all take another step, among other things, the Rangers might make the playoffs and, at that point, possibly be dangerous.
More than likely though the Rangers will not get every conceivable break to go their way and they will find themselves in the top 10 of the lottery. The Islanders should, but who knows, pass the Rangers. Chicago likely can and maybe Detroit as well, with their games in hand. That would put the Rangers in the 7th spot and increase their odds towards getting a higher pick. There is a month to go in the season and while three points does not seem like a lot, the Rangers may have better odds of landing the first overall pick than slipping into the 8th spot.
