12/23 | 4:08PM: Larry Brooks wonders if/when the Rangers will "begin to dangle" Keith Yandle in an attempt to "acquire a critically needed top-six winger" to play with Derek Stepan. (NY Post)
Brooks notes that Yandle's PP time has gone down and that both Chris Summers and Brady Skjei saw more PK time in their brief time with the Rangers than Yandle has all season long. (NY Post)
Craig Custance spoke with some NHL GMs who believe the Rangers would move Yandle "for the right price." (ESPN Insider)
Yandle is a UFA at the end of the season and has a cap hit of $2.625.
Adam Rotter: It's hard to see the Rangers dealing Yandle because he is part of this group that is "going for it" and the Rangers paid a pretty nice price to "go for it" with Keith Yandle. He still brings a ton of potential onto the ice every nigh to help the Rangers score goals, but his role has diminished and Dan Boyle is the Rangers top PP defenseman right now.
Yandle is unlikely to come back after this season both because the Rangers have Ryan McDonagh and Marc Staal locked up in front of him and because they can't pay a third pair/PP defenseman $5 million+. There is a case to move him but they would need to get someone who can step in and help up front as well as a defenseman they will feel comfortable using on the third pair in the playoffs. The Rangers, I don't think, would move Yandle just to move him but if a team came with a good package it could be worth it to at least get something for a UFA.
