Here is a great article that really compares the two goaltenders. Both are great in their own right but in the article it really favors the 40 year old goaltender Martin Brodeur with great evidence. Definitely check it out here.
As the Devils finished off the Philadelphia Flyers I had thought about the beginning of this series and I thought that the Devils were going to be steam rolled by a very physical Flyers team. Since the Flyers had run over the Pittsburgh Penguins with some what of ease, I thought worse for the Devils since they barely could get passed the Florida Panthers. Five games later I was proved wrong and boy was I glad to be wrong.
The personality of ?coach Pete DeBoer really came through against the Flyers that really has not been seen in New Jersey in quite some time. He is a tough coach to read. ?The Devils were a tough team to read for the Flyers as they would try to break into the Devils' zone but would be caught in the neutral zone making it impossible to generate any offense. DeBoer always has a calm look on his face. The Flyers would try to pull the Devils into their game of getting the Devils to play agitated hockey but they had nothing of it. They played whistle to whistle and level headed which didn't get them into penalty trouble. DeBoer wanted to bring a more offensive style of hockey to a defensive driven team. The Devils had the right mix of offense (scoring at least 3 goals a game in the series) and defense (allowing 11 goals over the 5 games). ?But what really separates this Devils team from prior playoff teams is the fact the Devils were able to establish a forecheck that I had never seen before. Their forecheck was relentless against a physical Flyers team which ultimately lead to the demise of the Flyers.

ESPN has posted their weekly power rankings. The Devils have moved up 5 spots from last week to the 8th spot. ?The Devils have been playing better from last week including winning their last 3 games over the Blackhawks, Lightning and Hurricanes. They are hitting stride at a good time right before the playoffs.

ESPN has posted their weekly power rankings. In a week where the Devils looked like one of the hottest teams in the NHL they fell in the power rankings all thanks to their last two losses to the St. Louis Blues and Florida Panthers. They had a lead in both losses and came up short. Just days before the Devils were playing extremely well against the Rangers and Flyers and Penguins. Last week they were ranked 8th now they are 10th. Give this a read.
The Bleacher Report has posted an article on 4 moves the Devils should make. Definitely give this a read. But here is my opinion of each move.
1. Keep Zach Parise- Well yes this is a 100% must for the Devils. If the Devils want to remain a competitive team in the future they are going to need Zach Parise. I believe at this point its a 50/50 shot for Parise. The only thing that bothers me is that the Devils have not started contract talks with Parise but maybe they are waiting until the end of the season to avoid distraction. But Parise makes everyone around him play better and he is a great leader. He should get paid what he wants and I think in a short time he will get a chance for his ring.

The Hockey Buzz has posted a good look at some Devils prospects. They go over the play of goaltender Scott Wedgewood and winger Reid Boucher. Wedgewood stopped 35 of 36 shots against the Barrie Colts of the OHL. Boucher has 21 goals this season in the OHL. In the article they compare him to Phil Kessel. So there is a lot of potential for the up and coming Devils. Give it a read.

The Hockey News has posted a rumor roundup with features the impending free agency of Zach Parise. It says that Parise wants a good amount of money but overall wants to win a Stanley Cup. If the Devils want to have a shot at keeping Parise they are going to have to show this season now probably more than ever that they need to win now otherwise Parise will probably play for someone else next season. Definitely give this one a read.
In my opinion I think both parties will come to an agreement before the end of the season which may light a spark under the whole team knowing that their captain isn't going anywhere. I think that with the young talent coming up the Devils' system they will be able to convince Parise to stay and lead this team to a Stanley Cup. I'm sure he'd give a rather small hometown discount in signing in the $7 million range.

The Hockey News posted an article about what it would have to take for the Devils to resign their captain. The mention that in order for the Devils to have the availale cap space they are going to have to make some moves that may take the team out of contention for a Stanley Cup ring. Parise wants to play some where he has a chance of winning a ring and can also get a nice pay check.
Right now the Wild are a very hot team and if they continue to play well through out the season and make a good run in the playoffs it would not shock me to see Parise return to his home state of Minnesota. The Wild also have the money to sign him so there is more motivation for him to go back home.

ESPN posted their weekly power rankings. Last week the Devils were ranked 23rd after a bad stretch of games but the Devils have really bounced back winning 6 of 7 games. The most important thing is that the top line of Parise-Henrique-Kovalchuk have been generating a lot of goals. Finally. Give it a read.
There is an article on Bleacher Report saying that the Devils must trade Martin Brodeur now. They say that it would be tough for the Devils to resign Brodeur after this season when his contract expires. It has been obviously especially lately that Brodeur has not been up to par.
But really think about it with Brodeur's play this season do you really think any other team is going to want to trade for an aging goaltender for half a season? I don't think so. With the injuries that Brodeur has encountered over the last couple seasons you have to figure that this is more than likely going to be his final season especially if there is going to be any work stoppage coming up this summer.

John Schweibacher at CBS has comprised a list of 27 Scott Niedermayer facts. Niedermayer is going to be honored on Friday when the Devils retire his number 27 to the rafters before the Devils take on the Dallas Stars. Definitely give this one a read. You'll learn a lot of things you didn't know about number 27.

ESPN posted its weekly power rankings. Last week the Devils were ranked 25th but have moved up two spots this week. They are ranked 23rd this week. Even though the Devils played better this week they are still one of the underperforming teams in the NHL.
As ESPN put in their description the Devils need more from Ilya Kovalchuk, Zach Parise and Martin Brodeur. These guys are suppose to be leading the team and they are not. This is a contract year for Zach Parise and even though all aspects of his game are rather well his numbers are very low. If he wants the big money and a chance to win he has to step it up.

ESPN posted its power rankings today. And as expected the Devils fell but not by much despite losing the last four games. The fell from 24th to 25th. They bring up the point that the Devils are ranked 27th in the league in goals per game. There is no excuse for them to be that low considering the talent they have. Give it a look.

Bleacher Report comprised a list of reasons why the Devils should bench Martin Brodeur. The reasons are: Age, Goals Against Average, Keith Kinkaid, Johan Hedberg and finally One More For Marty.
Yes it is a know fact that Brodeur is one of the older goaltenders in the league and some of his play has showed it. But I think that he is still a competitive enough goaltender to play. Maybe he shouldn't be playing as much as he is but he should not be replaced by any means.

Hockey Buzz has heard that if the Devils are still in the playoff race that they could be in the market for a veteran defenseman. They specifically cite Tim Gleason or Toni Lydman that would fit with the Devils.
To be honest I think the Devils need to find a more offensive defenseman. Both Gleason and Lydman are not really point producing defenseman, they need a young offensive defenseman. The Devils need more goals and a defenseman could possibly replace Kovalchuk on the point on the power play which could get the powerplay going.

ESPN posted its weekly power rankings. The Devils have moved up despite their mediocre play against the bottom dwelling teams. The mention that the Devils have two of the NHL's best rookies in Adam Larsson and Adam Henrique. They also point out the stat that the Devils have the best PK in the NHL but they have mentioned that they have given up the most shorthanded goals in the NHL.

Zach Parise rumors continue with The Hockey News reporting that Parise has met with his agent about leaving New Jersey this summer. They cite several reasons as to why Parise wants to leave.
The first one is the financial trouble the team is going through right now. Another is the team's inability to make to make it past the second round of the playoffs. Third is that Parise is not playing left wing due to Ilya Kovalchuk taking that position on the top line.

The Bleacher Report has an article on how the next three games for the Devils can be "dangerous". The next three games start off with a home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and then a home and home series with the Islanders.
Both teams are at the bottom of each conference. If the Devils can get back to how they have been playing when their road trip started, they should have no problem getting at least 5 points out of 6 points.

It is not news that the New Jersey Devils are in a financial hell. (Yes pun intended)?Pro Hockey Talk?is reporting that the Devils have an interested buyer. They are in debt by $250 million but that will all go away if potential buyer Nelson Peltz erases the debt. This is very good news for the Devils considering what is happening to other NHL teams in financial crisis. Give it a?look.

Oh boy. This certainly should not come as a surprise to anybody since the day Zach Parise only resigned to a 1 year contract this summer. But The Fourth Period has reported that the Devils have been in talks to deal Zach Parise to Los Angeles for goaltender Jonathan Bernier and for either Dustin Brown, Jack Johnson or Dustin Penner. This would be a huge blockbuster deal for both clubs.
Personally I would like to see this deal happen because if the Devils could get Bernier and Brown for Parise and someone else, it would instantly make the Devils a bigger threat on offense along with providing youth in net. Bernier would be a great replacement for Brodeur. Also there is a huge chance that if the Devils don't resign Parise to a long term deal during the season that he may not resign this summer. So if the Devils can profit off the the loss of Parise they should definitely make this deal happen.

Todd Cordell over at HockeyBuzz raises the question, Should the Devils make a move for Cody Franson? It was reported that a team made an offer Franson for a second round pick and a player. No word if it was the Devils but Franson would definitely help the defense. He has a great amount of potential and could help the Devils in the future. Give this a read.

Former New Jersey Devil Doug Gilmour was elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame this year. In his induction speech Gilmour mentions his former coach Pat Burns. Burns coached Gilmour in Toronto. The Hockey News posted an article on whether the Devils could trade the future Hall of Famer. The mention that Brodeur would be a good fit in Florida. In my opinion, I don't think Brodeur is going to go anywhere. Brodeur is definitely going to retire a Devil. To even think that he may play for another team is?ludicrous. But give this a read.

The NHL has released the players that will be on the All Star ballot this year. Only 4 Devils have made the list and they are Martin Brodeur, Ilya Kovalchuk, Patrik Elias and Zach Parise. The fact there there are no defensemen on the ballot is rather upsetting. I feel that at least Anton Volchenkov should be on there. Give the list a look.

It is a day we have been fearing for a very long time. The day Martin Brodeur is no longer a New Jersey Devil. The Wall Street Journal talks about the plan to replace Brodeur in net. This is definitely worth a read!
I know that day is coming very soon if not this season than most definitely next season. Me personally I will be very upset when Brodeur reitres but completely understand why his time is up.?Brodeur has been my idol since the age of 9 and one of the reasons why I love the sport of hockey.

ESPN's Pierre LeBrun and Craig Custance discuss the struggles of Martin Brodeur and Ryan Miller. Both goaltenders are very talented and to see them struggling is an unpleasant surprise so far this season.
They also mention Ilya Kovalchuk and his contributions (or lack thereof) on offense. He has a monster contract that he has not lived up to yet. He has to be the one to get the offense going. Maybe he should not be playing on a line with Zach Parise. Both Kovalchuk and Parise have been lacking offensively on the Devils' losing skid. Definitely give this a read.

The New York Post is reporting that the New Jersey Devils are looking to acquire Edmonton Oilers' center Sam Gagner. The Devils are lacking depth at the center position with the injuries to Travis Zajac and Jacob Josefson. Sam Gagner was drafted 6th overall in the 2007 NHL Draft. Over 4 seasons Gagner has played in 291 games with 173 points (59 G, 114 A). So far in the 2011-2012 campaign he has 1 assist in 5 games. If the Devils are going to make a move one could suspect that the Devils are going to have to give up some high draft picks and an up and coming prospect. Definitely give this article a read.
Bleacher Report has compiled a list of the 22 Most Entertaining Coaches in NHL History. Two former Devils coaches have made the list. Some of the older Devils fans definitely remember Robbie Ftorek throwing the bench on the ice during a game. The other Devils coach was the great Pat Burns. Check out the list if you want see some classic coach moments.

ESPN's weekly power rankings are out. It is obvious that the Devils are going to slip in the rankings due to their 1-3 road trip. ESPN brings up the point in that the Devils are 28th in the NHL on the power play. Another offensive stat that needs to change if the Devils are going to win more games. Give it a read. ESPN writers Scott Burnside and Pierre LeBrun talk about the biggest surprises in net so far this season. They mention Johan Hedberg because of his excellent play in the?absence?of Martin Brodeur who has been out with a shoulder injury. Like usual, Burnside is surprised by the move that Lou Lamoriello made over the offseason to bring back Hedberg. It really seems like the guys at ESPN always underestimate the Devils and always seemingly proved wrong. Anyway it's worth a read.

Tom Gulitti met up with Scott Niedermayer in Los Angeles before the Devils took on the Kings Tuesday. He was drafted in 1991 3rd overall by the Devils. Niedermayer stayed with the Devils until 2005 to sign with the Anaheim Ducks to play with his brother Rob. Niedermayer was a huge part of the reason why the Ducks won the Stanley Cup in 2007. Niedermayer will have his number 27 retired by the Devils on December 16th against the Dallas Stars. It seems very likely that Niedermayer will be in the Hockey Hall of Fame. He says that if he does make the Hall of Fame he wants to go in as a New Jersey Devil where he spent most of his career. Definitely give this interview a read.

Hockey Buzz has a series of questions that surround the New Jersey Devils. They are great questions that really make you think about the Devils and the current state they are in. ?I will answer those questions...
"1.?Will the Devils finish in the top-six of the Eastern Conference, and why or why not?"
