Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch in not thrilled with the MLS schedule makers - and things are just about to get tougher for his squad.
"It's a really hard week. I mean, I don't know how the league can arrange a week like this for us," Marsch said after Sunday's win. "I put a lot on them in the scheduling that this was really poor, really poor. Especially now with travel between Salt Lake and Columbus; it's the worst combination of Sunday-Wednesday-Saturday you could possibly have."
Marsch and the Red Bulls will now travel to Columbus for a Saturday night match.
"Heat. Elevation. Short turnaround. Travel. It's not easy, man. It's not easy," Marsch said after Wednesday's loss.
Besides the MLS schedule, the Red Bulls will make a short trip to Philadelphia to take on the Union squad just four days after their game against the Crew for a US Open Cup game.
The team then returns to MLS action with a game in New York City against NYCFC on July 3. The Red Bulls are currently scheduled to play six MLS games in July, US Open Cup games notwithstanding. And looking ahead to August, they'll soon have CONCACAF Champions League games to deal with, too.
"Not happy about it," Marsch said after their Sounders game. "But whatever. We have to suck it up..."
