Unlike the outspoken Jets teams under Rex Ryan, new head coach?Todd Bowles prefers a more reserved approach?(Cimini, June 12).

"Rex did things his own way, which was great," Bowles said. "I do things my own way, which is great. I have to make sure I stay true to who I am and make sure guys see that and they can relate to that."

The Jets locker room is full of characters and it hasn't been easy to keep them in line so far.

Chris Johnson will become a free agent on March 10 after the Jets declined to pick up his option on Monday, but that might not be bad news for the running back who felt he was slighted his fair share of playing time last season (Post, Feb. 16).

Johnson split carries last season with Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell, which is something the team said they would do from the start of the season - though Johnson believed he would have a bigger role.

?Basically, it was a situation where I was going there to be the guy or whatever,? Johnson said Monday. ?It was still said, yeah, both guys [Johnson and Ivory] were going to get playing time. I think it was like after the [third] game or something like that, it just switched over and I started getting less and less playing time, and not knowing where it came from.?

Rex Ryan has interviews for a handful of gigs, both head coaching vacancies and television jobs.

Ryan has interviews with the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers about their head coaching vacancies (Costello, Dec. 30). Ryan also reportedly interviewed with ESPN in the case where he does not return to the sidelines next season.

Mehta also reported that Charley Casserly, who is consulting for the Jets, contacted UCLA last week to inquire about the contract status and buyout clause of Bruins coach Jim Mora, a former coach of the Falcons (Mehta, Dec. 30).

Reports surfaced over the weekend that Johnson is "fond" of Ryan and would prefer that John Idzik's successor as GM make the decision on Ryan's future. Idzik and Ryan are widely expected to be fired Monday.

Six days from what most assume will be his last day with the Jets, Rex Ryan left no doubt during Tuesday's press conference he still believes he can lead a team to a Super Bowl title (Jets, AP Dec. 23).

"I was given some gifts and obviously a lot less in other areas, but I can coach football and I know that," Ryan said . "But, it's more based on the people that I'm around and the people that I know. I think that gives me the belief that one day, I'm going to win that thing. That's how I feel."

The Jets (3-12) end the season at Miami Sunday, and Ryan is expected to be fired the next day. But he isn't going out without a fight.

Although the Raiders are considered the favorites to land Jim Harbaugh should he leave San Francisco this off season, the Jets are monitoring his situation as well (Schefter, Nov. 30).

Reports of monitoring?Harbaugh are the first acknowledgement that the Jets are willing to part ways with head coach?Rex Ryan?(Cimini, Nov. 30).

An interesting question that many have asked me over the past few weeks and, truthfully, I have not thought too deeply about. There are many variables and hurdles that have to be resolved and cleared before such an event could happen.

First, Rex would have to be relieved of his duties as head coach of the Jets. That's already a foregone conclusion according to our Jets friends.

Don't blame Percy Harvin for trying to take a third-quarter kickoff out from deep inside the Jets end zone Sunday. Like most everything else the Jets tried, it was part of a plan that went horribly wrong (ESPN, Oct. 26).

As the Jets set up to receive the kickoff after a Buffalo field goal midway through the quarter made it 27-17, T.J. Graham laid on his belly, trying to confuse the Bills.

Buffalo figured out something was up and didn't ignore Graham. Harvin realized too late he couldn't throw it to Graham as planned and only made it to the Jets 3 for a 12-yard return.

Going to Gillette Stadium is never easy for Rex Ryan. Thursday might be his toughest trip of all.

Not only are the Jets going to Massachusetts on a five-game losing streak, they also will be facing Darrelle Revis, who anchored the Jets secondary for six seasons before leaving for Tampa Bay last year.

Ryan took some credit for Revis' emergence as one of the league's best corners in their time together with the Jets during his Tuesday press conference, after acknowledging how different it will be to see him in a Pats uniform.

Jets coach Rex Ryan mixed humor and defensiveness Friday reacting to Braylon Edwards' critical comments about his former team on SNY's GEICO SportsNite Thursday (McManus, Oct. 10).

Ryan took several questions about Edwards' comments before asking, "What was Braylon doing? Trying to get a full-time gig or something?"

But Ryan turned serious when asked about Edwards' assertion that Ryan's "ego" was getting in the way of the coach's ability to adapt. "It?s player over scheme so we?ll always do what maxes our abilities, the talent of our players," Ryan said. "Always have. Sheldon Richardon has stepped up and taken claim for the timeout that may have cost the Jets the?game.

With 4:57 remaining in the fourth quarter, and the Jets trailing by seven, Geno Smith connected with Jeremy Kerley for a 37-yard touchdown that appeared to tie the game. The referees would wave?the play off, stating that a timeout was called from the Jets sidelines before the snap. Initially, it appeared the culprit was offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, who was signally timeout while running along the sidelines, although he appeared to be backing off his decision as the clock ran down.

Upon further review, it became clear that Richardson was the one who brought the ill fated timeout to the side line officials attention. When asked about the play in question, Richardson replied,?"It?s fourth down at Lambeau Field and there was 80,000 screaming fans. They didn?t hear Marty. So, I made sure they heard him."?Richardson said.?"I let the team down".

The Jets took a little excursion tonight in Buffalo before the team's game against the Bills at 1PM tomorrow. ?Per Brian Costello of the New York Post, coach Rex Ryan pulled a Frank Reynolds and took out his guys for steaks and skeeball at the Buffalo Dave & Buster's.

According to a source, Rex Ryan canceled the team?s normal pregame offensive and defensive meetings and the team went to ?Dave & Buster?s,? the chain arcade/restaurant a few miles from the team?s hotel.

It is highly unusual for a team to skip their preparation the night before a game and could be perceived as a lack of respect for the Bills. Ryan still conducted the full team meeting where he gives his motivational talk, but the team skipped its final game-planning sessions.

Got a?Case of the Mondays? Fear not! Columnist and TheJetsBlog Podcast co-host?Corey Griffin?has you covered every?Monday?morning with thoughts, ideas and opinions about all things Jets.Evaluating the AFC playoff picture through only 10 weeks is akin to watching an 87-year-old put together a puzzle without his glasses. It looks a little jumbled, there?s definitely some pieces missing and it?ll probably be a while before the picture looks coherent.

For all their dominance, the Broncos are buoyed by a 38-year-old quarterback with failing legs. Their chief rival for the No. 1 seed, undefeated Kansas City, is not nearly as imposing as their record, despite a No. 1 scoring defense and Jamaal Charles? MVP campaign. The Patriots, when healthy, look like the AFC?s best team, but they won?t be 100 percent any time this season. Meanwhile, the Colts were just worked in their own building by a Brian Schottenheimer and Kellen Clemens-led offense and the Bengals continue to ebb and flow on Andy Dalton?s schizophrenic arm (and head).

Woody Johnson and the rest of the NFL owners are in Phoenix this week for league meetings and when asked about the 2012 backup quarterback and his status with the Jets, Woody Johnson didn't give any direct answers on the matter according to Manish Mehta, "we?re looking at all possibilities with [Tebow]. We?ll see what the offseason [brings]."

I know it's seems silly, but I really think it comes down to trying to move him via trade to save cap space. ?Tebow is on the books for $2.6 million in 2013. ?Should they cut him, they save about a million dollars, should they trade him, they save most of that full cap figure. ?It doesn't seem like much, but when the Jets are pinching pennies with potential starters like OLB Antwan Barnes, then we have to expect that they are going to do everything they can to save all the cap space they can for the 2013 season.

But just because the Jets want to trade Tebow doesn't mean they will be able to do so. ?This meeting in Phoenix might represent one of the last best chances between now and the draft to move Tebow. ?The foregone conclusion is that there is zero chance that Tebow returns with the Jets in 2012. ?Based on the way Rex Ryan avoided (like the plague) playing #15 at quarterback, it's hard to imagine that they would bring him back if the team's coach doesn't think him competent to play his own position. ?Maybe the Jets will shock the world and have come up with plans to actually let him compete for the starting job in 2013, but it seems so far-fetched at this point. ?Sooner or later the team will cut him, but they sure are taking their time to do so.
