Rolando McClain

The names of two free agents hit the Giant beat's radar today: LB Rolando McClain and RB Brandon Jacobs. McClain cleared waivers and Jacobs is lobbying for a reunion with the Giants.

Both seem like long shots to land here with the Giants.

The Giants are rumored to be interested in McClain, who they coveted three years ago in the draft but were beaten to the punch by the Raiders, who took McClain with the eight overall pick. The Giants ended up choosing JPP at 15 and McClain went on to have a rocky existence in Oakland.

LB Rolando McClain has been released by the Oakland Raiders. Unfortunately, he's going down as as another incredulous first-round draft bust for the Silver and Black. In actuality, McClain isn't that bad of a player. He just fell short of the immense expectations placed on him coming out of Alabama in 2010.

Back then, we mocked McClain to the Giants at #15 in several scenarios. The Raiders pulled the trigger on McClain at #8 and the Giants took JPP later on in the round. Looks like the Raiders saved the Giants some grief back then.

But what about now? Should the Giants explore McClain now that the expectations and price tag have dropped considerably....? They have Dan Connor and Mark Herzlich on the inside already, but this kid was supposed to be a major talent. Maybe a change of venue will help him recognize his potential.
