The Nets listed center Brook Lopez as doubtful for Wednesday's regular season opener against the Celtics in Boston (Nets, Record, Oct. 28).

Lopez hasn't practiced at full speed since spraining his surgically repaired right foot Oct. 15. The Record reported first-year coach Lionel Hollins said Mason Plumlee would probably start if Lopez can't go. The Nets went 16-6 when Plumlee started last season.

Meanwhile in Boston, Rajon Rondo (broken bone in left hand) wasn't sure if he would be able to play Wednesday (AP, Oct. 28).

The Nets (7-14) defeated the Boston Celtics (10-13) tonight by a score of 104-96.

The Least You Should Know

[sny-box] The Nets had a comfortable 13-point lead after three quarters but went cold from the field to start the fourth. The Celtics though could not make a serious enough dent into the lead, so when Brooklyn regained its stroke, the game was sealed.

On Wednesday night, the Nets defeated the Boston Celtics by a final score of 101-93.

The Skinny: The Celtics raced out to the early lead, relying on hot three-point shooting to open an eight-point lead. But Joe Johnson found his outside stroke, and the Nets responded with a 13-2 run, capped off by back-to-back three-pointers by C.J. Watson. Brooklyn led by one after one.

Deron Williams took control offensively to open the second quarter, helping to increase the Nets? lead to six. Boston?s second unit immediately fought back to regain the lead, but from there the Nets went on a 15-4 run to lead by 10 at the break. D-Will scored 11 points in the quarter, and things began to get chippy as Kevin Garnett picked up a technical foul for a skirmish with Reggie Evans.

Deron Williams had a big game last night with 20 points and nine assists to help seal a season sweep of the Orlando Magic 97-77.? The Nets were coming off two horrible losses to two good Western Conference teams in Memphis and Houston in which the Nets were manhandled.? The Nets needed to right the ship against another below .500 team and set themselves up for the big meeting with the Miami Heat on Wednesday. Williams got them started with a great first quarter and led the way to a blowout win.

Williams may have had a sub-par first half of the season (in his eyes) but he is making a late run at an All-Star selection as a replacement for the injured Rajon Rondo.

Williams has repeatedly said he is not worried about being an All-Star and he is very believable but his numbers and play of late tell a different story.

In case you missed it, during Wednesday night's battle up in Boston against the Celtics, with 29.5 seconds remaining in the first half and the Nets leading the Celtics by a score of 51-35, Kris Humphries fouled Kevin Garnett. Humphries made slight contact with Garnett's face and Garnett fell to the hardwood.

Rajon Rondo took exception and attacked Kris Humphries. The skirmish ensued which resulted in three ejections. Humphries and Rondo were both tossed for their role in the brawl and Gerald Wallace and Kevin Garnett were each given technical fouls.

Unfortunately for the Nets, Gerald Wallace picked up a technical foul earlier in the game for arguing a non-call and picked up his second technical during the skirmish. Both he and Humphries were ejected for the Nets. For the Celtics, Rondo was tossed and Garnett was called for a technical foul.

The entire NBA? knows what the normal defensive protocol is for playing Boston Celtics all-star point guard Rajon Rondo: go under the screens on pick-and-rolls and make him beat you with his jump shot. Don't allow him to create easy buckets in the paint for others or otherwise wreak havoc in the lane.

Ahead of tonight's game, it will be interesting to see how the Nets play him. Rondo may surprise them with improve perimeter shooting proficiency.

First and foremost, let's be clear: we never wish injury upon any professional athlete and we would never take glee in anyone being hurt. That said, the Brooklyn Nets are still a team searching for its identity and riding a three game win streak, will look to make it four against the Boston Celtics on Thursday night.

Unfortunately for the Celtics, they may be without one of their key cogs...

Rajon Rondo
