The Devils have until 3 p.m. today to set their 23-man opening day roster. There's definitely some interesting choices to be made, although not a lot of them. I'll lay out who has likely made the team, who's on the bubble and who's likely headed to the AHL, or possibly back to juniors.

Made the 23

Forwards (13): Travis Zajac, Ilya Kovalchuk, Dainius Zubrus, David Clarkson, Jacob Josefson, Adam Henrique (IR) Bobby Butler, Cam Janssen, Krys Barch, Mattias Tedenby, Steve Bernier, Stephen Gionta, Ryan Carter (APOLOGIES! Just realized I obviously left Patrik Elias off this list.)Defensemen (7): Bryce Salvador, Marek Zidlicky, Anton Volchenkov, Andy Greene, Mark Fayne, Henrik Tallinder, Peter Harrold

NFL teams must get their rosters down to 53 players by tomorrow night at 9pm. They have until noon Saturday to claim/drop players and finalize those rosters.

Practice squads can be formed beginning Saturday at noon after the waiver period closes. Teams may sign any available player - not just players dropped form their rosters - as long as they are eligible (see below). Of the 75 players the Giants have on their roster, we see 22 eligible names.

All rookies are eligible for the practice squad. RB David Wilson, WR Rueben Randle and CB Jayron Mosely are assured roster spots, so forget them. DT Markus Kuhn, OT Matt McCants, TE Adrien Robinson, DE Matt Broha, OL Stephen Goodin, DE Adewale Ojomo, WR David Douglas, DB Laron Scott, LB Jake Muasau, DE Craig Marshall and TE Larry Donnell are all bubble players eligible for practice squad duty.

All NFL teams are required to cut their rosters down to 80 players this afternoon, but because the Giants and the Jets are being asked to play two games in four days, they were given an exemption to carry five additional players until Friday.

They only have to reduce their roster to 85 today, which wasn't difficult for the Blue given the choices.

WR Duke Calhoun was waived/injured. WR Ramses Barden and OL Adam Koets were moved from active PUP to inactive or Reserve/PUP. DT Marvin Austin, who underwent a procedure today to repair his torn pec, was placed on IR.

Four days. If you're a player on the Giants' roster bubble, that's all the time you have to curry favor with the Giants' powers that be.

Due to Hurricane Irene, tonight's game has been moved to Monday night, which is just 18 hours before teams are required to trim their rosters down to 80 players from the current 90.

After that, the timetable becomes more condensed. In as brutal a leg as any team has experienced in recent years, the Giants will travel to Foxborough to play the Patriots on Thursday night with less than 72 hours rest. Two days later, they must cut 27 more players in order finalize their 53-man roster.
