Gio Rescigno will start at quarterback for Rutgers on Saturday against Minnesota, head coach Chris Ash said, according to Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com.
Rescigno replaces Chris Laviano, who had made 18 consecutive starts.
"Gio has quietly just worked and worked and worked," Ash said, adding that the decision to use Rescigno as the starter isn't a result of "blaming" Laviano.
Rescigno went 10-for-18 for 120 yards and a touchdown on Saturday in relief of Laviano during Rutgers' 24-7 loss.
Laviano has completed 70 of 145 passes this season for 748 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions.
Rutgers is 2-5 this season, including an 0-4 conference record.
