Mater Dei 3-star wide receiver Eddie Lewis will sign with Rutgers on Wednesday, Lewis told NJ.com Tuesday night.

Lewis held offers from 12 schools, including Syracuse Boston College, Duke, North Carolina, Iowa, and Temple. However his recruitment ultimately came down to two programs: Rutgers and Indiana.

But because of the coaching changes that took place within the Hoosiers staff, Indiana simply ran out of time. Lewis had already planned his visit to Rutgers on the weekend of Jan. 20. He was scheduled to visit Indiana this past weekend, but after finishing his trip to Piscataway, the wide receiver decided he had seen enough.

Trimble scored 17 points and freshman Kevin Huerter had 11 for the Terrapins (18-2, 6-1), who own their best record after 20 games since the 1998-99 season.

Facing a team that has never won a conference game on the road, Maryland led only 38-35 shortly after halftime before Trimble took over. He threw an outlet pass that led to an easy layup, then drilled a 3-pointer. Huerter followed with a 3 to make it 46-35 - too big a deficit for Rutgers to make up.

Rutgers defensive lineman Julian Pinnix-Odrick is retiring from football without pursuing the NFL, he told NJ.com's Ryan Dunleavy.

Pinnix-Odrick, a 2016 co-captain who started all 12 games at defensive end and recorded 10 tackles for loss and five sacks for the Scarlet Knights, said he felt "indifferent" to the game after attending the College Gridiron Showcase in Texas.

"Being out there on the field in front of scouts against good players is no place to be indifferent," he said. "Everything is on the platter to say, 'Go! This is it!' And I wasn't feeling it. Not that I wasn't trying to: I was doing the extra work, but I wasn't excited. It reinforced what I had felt."

The NCAA has issued a Notice of Allegations to Rutgers University following the completion of an 18-month investigation into the athletics program, according to Keith Sargeant of NJ Advance Media.

Due to allegations that members of the athletics department, particularly the football program, had not been operating in full compliance with NCAA standards, Rutgers is facing seven possible violations.

The accusations involve the football program while former head coach Kyle Flood was running the program. Flood was fired after the 2015 season, a season in which he was suspended three games by Rutgers for academic misconduct.

Rutgers has hired former University of Minnesota head coach Jerry Kill to serve as the team's offensive coordinator, the team announced on Monday.

Kill was the head coach at Minnesota from 2011-2015. However health issues led to Kill missing several games throughout his five seasons there, and eventually led to his retirement in the middle of the 2015 season.

Following his departure from Minnesota, the 55-year old former head coach moved on to Kansas State University, where he is currently acting as an associate athletic director in charge of the football program.

Throughout his 22 seasons as a head coach at five different schools, Kill earned a 152-99 overall record.

As much as Chris Ash wants to move forward quickly after a 2-10 season first season as Rutgers' football coach, he knows that he has to spend time looking back, especially at the lowlights.

"It's not what anybody wants. I'm not satisfied with that," Ash said Wednesday. "We'll evaluate the overall big picture of the offense; special teams have not been very good. We'll assess all aspects of the process and identify ways to do better."

The Scarlet Knights allowed an average of nearly 38 points a game. They were outgained in total yardage by an average of 168 yards. There were 21 fumbles - 12 lost - and the revolving door at the quarterback position was squeezed with 34 sacks, totaling nearly the length of a football field. They finished on a nine-game losing streak, failing to win a contest in the Big Ten Conference.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) Five weeks ago, Maryland defeated Michigan State to move within a victory of becoming bowl eligible.

The situation remains unchanged.

Maryland still needs one win to earn a bowl bid under first-year coach DJ Durkin. Following an ugly four-game losing streak in which they were outscored 191-49, the Terrapins are left with one final opportunity to snag their elusive sixth victory of the season.

The door to a berth in the Big Ten Championship Game is wide open for Penn State and what was unthinkable just weeks ago -- a shot at the four-team College Football Playoff -- is within reach. The question now is: Can the injury-riddle Nittany Lions (8-2, 6-1 Big Ten) limp through it?

No. 9 Penn State, ranked eighth in this week's College Football Playoff poll, is expected to play without its top three offensive tackles when it travels to Piscataway, N.J., to play Rutgers (2-8, 0-7) on Saturday.

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Tyler O'Connor threw three touchdown passes in the first half, and Michigan State snapped its seven-game losing streak with a 49-0 rout of Rutgers on Saturday in what was a matchup of the last two teams in the Big Ten without a conference win.

Now Rutgers (2-8, 0-7) is alone at the bottom of the league after the Spartans (3-7, 1-6) raced out to a 35-0 halftime lead. LJ Scott ran for 103 of his 122 yards in the first half, and Demetrious Cox returned an interception for a touchdown.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) -- Devine Redding gave Indiana the lead with a 34-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter and caught Richard Lagow's third touchdown pass of the game in the fourth as the error-prone Hoosiers rallied for a 33-27 win over Rutgers Saturday.

Lagow was 28 of 40 for 394 yards. He hit Ricky Jones for a 36-yard score and started the second-half rally for Indiana (5-4, 3-3 Big Ten) with a 40-yard TD toss to Camion Patrick.

Zander Diamont added a 59-yard touchdown run for Indiana, which turned it over four times, missed three field goals and two extra points.

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- For Rutgers, this scenario is a disappointment.

For Michigan State, it was unimaginable.

The Scarlet Knights and Spartans will meet in East Lansing on Saturday in a matchup between the only two winless teams in Big Ten play. Michigan State, which went to the national semifinals last season, has lost seven games in a row - yet is still favored by about two touchdowns. That's how badly this season has gone for Rutgers.

Chris Ash, in his first season as coach at Rutgers, was somewhat dismissive of the idea that the two teams are that similar.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) Winning in the Big Ten Conference hasn't been easy for Rutgers, except when it comes to Indiana.

In two-plus years in the conference, the Scarlet Knights (2-6, 0-5) have posted a 4-17 record in the league. They won three times in 2014, once the following year and none this year under new coach Chris Ash.

Indiana (4-4, 2-3) is the common thread in the wins. Rutgers beat the Hoosiers 45-23 at High Point Solutions Stadium two years ago and rallied from a 25-point deficit last year in Bloomington to post a 55-52 victory in a game that featured 1,223 combined yards of total offense.

Giovanni Rescigno beat the odds to become Rutgers' starting quarterback.

When spring practice opened under first-year coach Chris Ash, Rescigno was third behind incumbent Chris Laviano and Hayden Rettig, who started the season opener last year and was the backup the rest of the way. The addition of TCU transfer Zach Allen and highly touted freshman Tylin Oden in the summer beefed up the competition.

Oden was viewed as the quarterback of the future given his dual-threat ability in offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer's power-spread offense.
