UConn sits in a precarious position heading into their final tune-up against Central Connecticut on Sunday at noon at the XL Center (1 p.m., SNY).

UConn, coming off a win over Columbia, is 5-4 on the season. It's a record the Huskies aren't used to having, but the American Athletic Conference's weakness has led the Huskies to invert their schedule.

UConn went hard in the non-conference, Texas, Duke, West Virginia, and even has dates left with Stanford and Florida.

UConn (4-4) will play its final game pre-Christmas on Monday night against Columbia at 7:30 p.m. on SNY at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

UConn head coach Kevin Ollie swears its going to turn around. UConn is 4-4, a rare mediocre record this time of year for UConn, with the fifth toughest strength of schedule in the country, and its mainly because of one thing -- shooting. ?

Ali led his Sagemont High (Weston, Fla.) team to a 33-0 record as a junior this past season. Ali's?a -foot-4 180-pound shooting guard prospect. The Huskies are coming off a national title, Kevin Ollie signed a contract extension, so the de-commitment is perplexing, but he did say the Huskies will remain in consideration.

HARTFORD -- Breaking news here at the XL Center....no dance team or cheerleaders.

OK, that's not a loss, though it is a lesson in why games should be on campus (and I am one of the few that like the XL Center when full) if for nothing more than the students can get here because it is their team after all.

The real news is that Ryan Boatright will not play tonight. Boatright was in the Chicago area the last couple of days to mourn the loss of his cousin, Arin Williams, who was shot and killed last week.
