Ryan Callahan Video Ryan Callahan
After a game recently, John Tortorella was asked if Callahan's offensive skills get overlooked because of everything else that he does.
Tortorella responded, "always. You talk about Ryan Callahan and he is called a grinder, a banger and what did he score last year, 29 goals? He gets overlooked as far as his offensive abilities and his talent because the other stuff sticks out and is always in his game. That is why he is our captain and leads us as far as how to play."
On Callahan, John Tortorella said during the season, "I think that people think he is just a shot blocker; a guy who can bang around the boards, forecheck and finish checks but this is his third season with 20+ goals. He can play and make plays and I think that Cally has a little bit of a chip on his shoulder from everyone who thinks he is a one-dimensional guy and he isn?t. As he keeps growing as a player he is certainly showing that."
Callahan had 29 goals this season for the Rangers.
John Tortorella said on MSG in the post game show, "he played well and did all the things he needed to do as a leader to try to get us a win, right until the bitter end. He'll do the same thing our next game."
On the Rangers captain, former Ranger Bobby Holik wrote, "Ryan Callahan is rightfully the Rangers captain and hopefully will be for many years to come."

Callahan on snapping 6-game skid w/empty netter: "It was good to get that last one. Now I just have to try to do it with a goalie in there."On Callahan, John Tortorella said during his post game press conference on NHL.com,"He blocks shots. He gets robbed by Marty in the game. It's killing him that he isn't helping us offensively. Killing him, but he continues to do those other things and I think that if he gets out of his own way, because I think he ares so much that he is in his own way. We are finding a way to win without him totally going. I think he is close."
