2:41PM: Malone's comments today after being placed on waivers (LoHud via SoundCloud)

  • On his season so far, "Obviously it's been a lot of crazy things happening the last few days. They have to make room for some moves and I have been the odd-man out and I think it was expected for something to happen. Not much I can do except work hard and take it day at a time."
  • Did you talk to AV, "yea, AV said that they have to do something and it is what it is I guess. It's nothing personal, first for myself, a new learning experience but just take it day at a time and work hard and something positive happens."
  • Will you go, "not sure, I haven't spoken to my agent. We will see what happens. Never know, I have no idea. Just getting through today and everything happens for a reason, not sure what the reason is yet (laughs) but it always seems to usually work out in the end. That is the only way I view life for whatever reason, it is what it is and try to make the best of it. (Laughs)
  • "yea, they were just letting me know what was going on. I appreciate the opportunity. Signing here, I was happy to make the team with all the guys that came in. Duke and Hayes are great young players who can play at this level. It's the way the league is going now and you kind of expect it, you are happy for those guys. Everything happens for a reason and hopefully there is a fit, who knows...who knows."
  • Can you be a good player at 6-7 minutes a night, "not to score 20 goals. Anyone playing under ten minutes gets in the 5-10 goal range, at the top, and it's a new position for myself. It is difficult, you just want to be part of a winning team at the end of your career. I think I have proven that I can still score goals in those situations and that is obviously still important. I feel that I can skate and help in that department and never got a chance to fight but I will do whatever it takes to help out the team."
  • It's harder, you don't have as much a feel for the game, not as much time with the puck, you work out between periods to keep the legs going, that part I have gotten used to and when you play a lot you look at the D last night, Staal gets in the zone, he is just playing and having fun and has a good feel for the game. It's different than playing 20 minutes, it's more difficult but you are willing to do it to be part of something special."

12:33PM: Malone spoke with the media this morning and said (NYR)

  • On getting in, "We have lots of great players so I just waited for the opportunity and will play my game and take it from there."
  • Was it hard to sit out, "you play to play, it's not fun to sit out but it's easier when they are winning. When they are struggling it's harder to watch but you keep working and waiting for opportunities. It's out of your control."
  • What do you want to bring tonight, "keep it simple and make good reads and throw the body around a little and do whatever it takes to win. Nothing too fancy but you hope to contribute every time you go over the boards you want to create chances and help out the game in a positive way."
  • On playing at MSG, "I played the two exhibitions games here but regular season is a different animal and they have good squad and we just wanna do what we have to do to get the two points tonight."
  • On the PP, "I think that is one of my strengths, being around the net, it's a great opportunity to go out and do that job well and see what happens. One period, one shift at a time."

Matthew Lombardi will not play against the Flyers tonight due to a groin injury and Alain Vigneault said that there was "not a chance" that Ryan Malone would play either of the games against the Flyers this week.

Malone didn't skate this past weekend or yesterday with a hip issue while Lombardi was slated to play tonight but hurt his groin during practice yesterday. Vigneault thinks that Malone might play in one of the games this coming weekend.

Vigneault said that he will have a better idea of Lombardi's status today but added that the situation is "unfortunate" because the Rangers need to see him on the ice.
