At CBC, Elliotte Friedman writes that some people are questioning whether the idea of bringing Ryan Smyth to the Rangers is a good one.

A GM warned Friedman of the disruption of chemistry that bringing in Smyth could have:

They're greater than the sum of their parts, a true team where players accept their roles. He'll force roles to change because of where you need to use him. It doesn't always work."
It has been reported that Ryan Smyth has some interest in joining the Rangers.

According to Bruce Garrioch in the Ottawa Sun, the Rangers are interested in and are waiting for decisions from Ryan Smyth and Teemu Selanne about whether they would accept a move from Edmonton and Anaheim respectively.

Anaheim is not yet taking offers on Selanne, but the Rangers, Sharks, Red Wings, and Bruins are believed to be interested.

Selanne has said before that he has not wanted to leave the Ducks, but the Rangers interest in him has been reported before.

Rangers GM Glen Sather drafted Ryan Smyth in 1994.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound winger is a documented net presence who certainly would be a sight for sore eyes on the dysfunctional Rangers power play
Smyth is a free agent at the end of the season.
