Michael Ryder has no goals in his last five games.

We know he?s a streaky guy but outside of a post he hit on Saturday night against Philadelphia, he?s been relatively quiet.? For one, he?s not shooting nearly enough.? He has six shots in the team?s last five games.? Even with these last five contests, he?s shooting at an 18 percent clip.? That?s great.

There?s nothing like a five-game road trip over 11 days for a team to get to know each other better.? While the sky may be falling for some Devils fans, there?s more reason to believe than there is to worry.

After being shut out in the first game, they answered back with three goals on Friday.? The defense had a bunch of breakdowns on Thursday.? In Game No. 2, they played a much cleaner contest in their own third of the ice.? The special teams have been sharp as well.? The penalty kill is perfect thus far and the power play looks a lot smoother to this point in time.

The Rangers will send a fifth round pick in 2014 to San Jose to complete their trade for Clowe. Had they re-signed Clowe, they would have sent their second round pick in 2014 to SJ.

At ESPN Insider, Craig Custance lists Clowe 15th in his free agent rankings and said that Clowe was very sought after at the trade deadline and that while durability is starting to become a concern, Clowe could be a very rewarding player for the team that signs him.

He notes that the Rangers would love to keep Clowe but their lack of salary cap space and keeping Brad Richards for this season has erased almost any chance of that.

Frank Provenzano, who spent the past six seasons as an assistant GM with Dallas, writes at ESPN that Clowe is one of the riskier free agents on the market because of his up and down season and that because of his past history as an effective player, he may be seeking more money than the contract Bryan Bickell (4 years and $16 million) just signed.

New Ranger Ryane Clowe was a guest on the Michael Kay Show today:

  • On Yesterday, "it was a pretty special night. It was kind of crazy coming to NY and playing that night."
  • Did he sleep last night, "I felt my eyes getting heavy in the third last night, I was running on fumes. I felt good during the game but I crashed pretty quick when I went back to the hotel."
  • On leaving SJ, "It was tough. Having a no-trade clause helped. I was able to have talks about the future. I think SJ is a little unsure of the direction they want to go in. I am a UFA and that is the kind of guy they were looking to move. The Rangers were the top of my list right away, once I heard they were interested."
  • On outside thoughts on the Rangers, "with the year they had last year they were going to have high expectations. We looked at them like a good year that wasn't having the year they wanted. Probably similar to SJ. They lost guys who could help, bu the last few weeks I was watching a lot of their games knowing that I could end up here, they don't give you too much. I think we are a top team in the East and have a world class goalie.
  • On Torts from a far, "He is a fiery guy, intense and he tries to get the most out of his players. I am intense, I love to win. It's only one game and I didn't get to speak with him too long, he just said to play your game. So far so good. When you are on the bench and having a great game it's pretty calm and collected, but we will see down the road."
  • On meeting his new teammates, "I knew Brian Boyle and Matt Gilroy. I texted with Brad Richards when the deal happened. At least I had a little bit of time. Those other guys came in right before warms ups and had to get dressed right away.'
  • On coming to NY, "I am really excited. To come East, it's a reason why I wanted to come here, it's a direct flight home. To play in NY is a special opportunity that you need to take advantage of when you are presented. It was special night that I will never forget. I love it here, there is a lot to do. The first class is all the way and treat the players very well."

Ryane Clowe was a guest on Sportsnets Trade Deadline coverage:

  • On his flight ,"I was too tired to do anything. I just landed in NY so it's pretty exciting."
  • On the pressure, "I don't think I am feeling too much pressure,e it is more excitement. This is a place that I wanted to come to, a place where I thought I would fit. I am pretty excited to be a Ranger now and it's going to be sprint in the last month."
  • "I was looking for a place where I can go and make an impact. I have never had Torts as a coach, but I think I can fit into his style of play. New York was just a good fit I thought. I wasn't sure it was going to happen, but I am happy I am coming to NY.
  • On his struggles this season, "It took me a bit to get going, but I have played my best hockey the past few weeks. I'm still playing pretty good minutes, so the coaches still thought I was making an impact. I felt like I was making an impact. I don't always have to be scoring goals to be contributing. I'm hoping to get off the schneid and get on a streak. I think I will."
  • "I was leaning towards giving the East a try. I had a gut feeling and went with NY."
  • "I just landed so I am probably going to be play tonight."
