The Giants lost four wide receivers, including Odell Beckham Jr. to a broken ankle, to injury in Sunday's 27-22 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, meaning they only have one healthy receiver on the roster: Roger Lewis Jr.

Beckham may need surgery on a fractured left ankle he suffered in the fourth quarter when he landed awkwardly after trying to go up for a catch, and the 24-year-old receiver could miss the rest of the season.

Earlier in the game, Brandon Marshall was carted off with an ankle injury, Sterling Shepard left the game with an ankle injury and Dwayne Harris broke his foot, leaving Lewis, the second-year pro out of Bowling Green, as the last man standing.

"It hurts -- like, what, three, four of my brothers got hurt today," Lewis said after the game. "They're like big brothers to me. So, it really hurts."

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Just when it looks like it can't get any worse … it gets worse.

Not only have the Giants lost as many games this season (five) as they lost all of last season, but they've now lost their best player, likely for the entire season, and four-fifths of what they thought would be the best receiving corps in the league.

Philip Rivers threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Melvin Gordon with 2:58 to play and the Los Angeles Chargers rallied to beat the New York Giants 27-22 on Sunday in a game worthy of two teams that started the season 0-4.

The touchdown pass was Rivers' third of the game and came three plays after Kyle Emanuel had a sack, forced fumble and recovery against Eli Manning at the Giants 11-yard line. It also came four plays after Odell Beckham Jr. hurt an ankle and become the fourth Giants receiver knocked out of the game. >> Read more

THE GAME

The San Diego -- er, um -- Los Angeles Chargers (0-4) at the Giants (0-4 … Wait, is that right?) at the Meadowlands on Sunday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. ET.

THE WEATHER

It should rain on your pregame tailgate party and it could rain late in the game, and in between it'll be 80 degrees and cloudy as two horribly disappointing 0-4 teams play. So, in a word: Yuck.

WHAT IT MEANS

Nothing, as far as the playoffs go -- that dream is all but dead. But this game could be a tipping point for how ugly this season gets. A win and the Giants get a few days of feeling good about themselves, looking at the standings and dreaming about how there's a lot of football left to be played. Lose to an 0-4 team that has to come across country to play them, though, and … well, if you really think things couldn't get any worse, that would surely put the theory to the test.

While the New York Giants are still alive in the postseason and head to Lambeau Field to face the Green Bay Packers in the NFC wild-card round, their 2017 opponents became official on Sunday.

The Giants will have four road games on the West Coast next season, traveling to face the Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders. 

In addition to home and road games against their division rivals, New York will travel to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next year.
