Mets GM Brodie Van Waganen said he believes Noah Syndergaard will be a key player for the Mets going forward, but that hasn't stopped other teams from expressing interest in the power-throwing pitcher.

The San Diego Padres, who last year had MLB.com's top-ranked farm system, have reportedly remained interested in trading for Synderaard, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

The Padres in July reached out to the Mets regarding Syndergaard, who went 13-4 with a 3.03 ERA in 25 starts last season, but nothing came about it.

Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Cardinals was difficult to swallow, especially since the Mets are now 2-4 on this road trip -- 4-7 during their last 11 games -- and have dropped three consecutive series.

Closer Jeurys Familia has blown three of his last five save opportunities. The thing is, had Juan Lagares not lost Jose Martinez's fly ball in the sun, the Mets win the game, 3-2. Instead, Tommy Pham scored to tie the game, Paul Sewald ran out of gas in the 13th inning and the Mets eventually lose.

First baseman Mark Teixeira hit two home runs and became the second Yankee this season to hit his 400th home run in New York's 6-3 win over the San Diego Padres at Petco Park on Sunday.

Teixeira joined the 400-home run club with a solo home run to right field off Carlos Villanueva to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead, and his second home run of the day made it 6-1 in the ninth inning.

"You don't see it very often; maybe it just tells you (400) was weighing on him a little bit more," manager Joe Girardi said, according to the New York Daily News' Mark Feinsand. "I think it's a celebration of 400. I don't think you'll really see it on the next one."

It was obviously nice for the Yankees to get away from San Diego with at least one win, but the series as a whole feels like another lost opportunity. That is especially true after coming into the road trip off back-to-back walk-off victories. The Yankees continue to fail to build substantial win streaks when it seems the schedule is in their favor.
