Sergey Karasev will return to Russia to play for his father, Vasily Karasev, at Zenit in St. Petersburg, according to an overseas source that talked to Netsdaily.com.
Karasev, a first round pick of Cleveland in 2013, was traded to the Nets as part of the three-team trade with Cleveland and Boston that brought Jarrett Jack to the Nets in July of 2014. The Russian native appeared in 40 games for the Nets last season, averaging 2.4 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. Over two seasons with Brooklyn, Karasev played in only 73 games.
Last month, Vasily Karasev, the coach of the year in the Russian league, told a Russian newspaper that his son would consider his options in both the NBA and Europe for next season. He then added, "One thing is for sure, Sergey won't play for the Nets next season."
