With the announcement that Sinorice Moss is headed to IR, Victor Cruz's chances of making the final roster increased substantially.

For those of you who have been? living under a rock or in the Peace Corps since July, Cruz has been having the most productive preseason of any WR in the NFL.

Three months ago, there wasn?t much room for change amongst a crowded receiving corps.

Ramses Barden was guaranteed a spot as was the talented and versatile Domenik Hixon. Hixon in fact freed up 3 roster spots in essence, due to his ability to return both punts and kicks.

Add in the three starting receivers (Smith, Nicks, Manningham) and the receiving corps of a ?run first? team is up to 5 players.

Moss' setback is just one in a long, long list.  One would have to think that the emergence of Victor Cruz, coupled with this injury, will spell the end for Sinorice in Blue and Red.  Don't worry though, he shouldn't have a hard time finding a new team willing to roll the dice.

A 7 point loss?...we'll take it. ?This was no ordinary game for the Giants. ?No the game didn't count. ?However, meaningless or not, the Giants found themselves with their back to the wall in the early month of August.

A 24-17 defeat is not exactly disappointing when you consider the circumstances.? New York played the entire game with a third string QB.? How many times have you witnessed a third string QB even play a series at the pro level, let alone an entire game?

That said, here's what we learned:

Ralph Vacchiano at the Daily News reports via the "Blue Screen's" twitter that Mario Manningham "might not go tonight" because of his groin issues.

Manningham's absence would help deplete an already slim group of WR/TE's.? By now you are likely all aware that only one true TE (Bear Pascoe) will be suiting up but Steve Smith, Sinorice Moss, and Tim Brown are also staying in sweatpants.

Manningham has all but cemented a top three receiving slot but Moss and Brown cannot afford to miss time.? Neither can young TE's Jake Ballard or Scott Chandler who would have had a golden oppurtunity to convince the brass that Travis Beckum (also out) isn't a priority come final cut day.

Sinorice Lending Helping Hand to South Bronx Students

Many feel Giants WR Sinorice Moss may be spending his time dodging the Turk this summer at camp , but right now he's using whatever time he may have left as a Giant to do some good.

According to Shelly Banjo of The Wall Street Journal......

The New York Giants wide receiver is launching a program called Dare to Dream, which asks teachers and high school students to take a pledge expressing their goals, such as improving their grades by the end of the year or applying to college. It then rewards students when they achieve their goals. This year,he ran a pilot program with Sobro, the South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation, which runs after-school programs for schools in the Bronx.

Losing Domenik Hixon will sting. That much is obvious. Perhaps the best reserve receiver in the league, the former Akron Zip was a starter on the Giants depth chart this time last year.

Most of the worry has been directed towards the gaping hole in the return game. Hixon?s knack for pulling off spectacular run backs has aided the Giants on several occasions. Thus, the previously mentioned concern is well placed.

Despite this, the hole at receiver should not be overlooked. The Giants, a club that rarely uses a fourth receiver on any given play, was headed into their 2010 training camp with five receivers already guaranteed a roster spot. Now, the team is down to only four set names (Steve Smith, Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham, Ramses Barden) and there will be room for competition among the bubble players.

Giants Hoping WR Ramses Barden Will Step Up To the Challenge

June brings mandatory mini camp and for the New York Giants the two largest group of positions players belong to the linebackers and the wide receivers.? Yesterday, the tight knit group of wide receivers went from 11 healthy players...to 10? when super star return man and wide receiver, Domenik Hixon went down with a torn ACL.

Now opportunity knocks and in steps Ramses Barden, the third round draft pick from 2009.? Last year the 6' 6 wide receiver from Cal Poly who never saw the playing field was buried on the depth chart behind Steve Smith,? Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham, Hixon,? Derek Hagan and Sinorice Moss. After another disappointing year from Sinorice Moss and the latest injury to Hixon, Ramees Barden should be able to step up and make the most of this opportunity.-

After a second year with the playbook and another year getting acclimated with the system and Eli Manning, I clearly expect Ramses Barden to challenge Derek Hagan for the 4th wide receiver spot on this offense. ? Hagan originally a 3rd round draft choice by the Miami Dolphins in 2006 was released by the Fins in 2008 and signed by the Giants.? His ability to make plays on special teams has made Hagan a valuable member of the 2010 NY Giants.

New York Giant DT Fred Robbins had a new post on his blog FredRobbins98.com today.

In it, Fred talks about his training camp prep for what is now less than a month away.

"It's important to be in the right state of mind mentally. Before training camp you want to spend a lot of time with your family and friends because once training camp starts that?s all over for a while. Just try to do your day to day activities, some of your hobbies, prepare yourself and get your mind prepared," said Robbins of his time leading up to training camp.

In a Q&A with Sinorice Moss on TheSportingNews.com, the young receiver was asked what he brings to the table among other things.

He responded "Speed, aggressiveness, power, just having the opportunity to have the ball in my hands. I feel like I can do so many things with the ball in my hands."

That's a lot of confidence Sinorice...and I like it. Moss had looked real good in OTAs and mini-camp before getting hurt. Hopefully he's ready to go come training camp. As of now, the Giants say he's on track and will be ready to go.
