Sweeny Murti reports from Yankee Stadium where, behind another terrific outing from CC Sabathia, the Yankees won their sixth game in a row.

Greg Bird broke out of a slump by going 3-for-3 with a home run, Michael Pineda threw seven strong innings and the New York Yankees won their seventh game in a row with a 9-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday at Yankee Stadium. >> Read more

Bird, who entered the game with a .038 batting average, was a triple shy of the cycle, hitting a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning after Aaron Judge's home run was overturned on replay to break a 1-1 tie.

Judge went 1-for-3 with an RBI triple. He hit a ball to deep right field off Adam Wainwright (0-3) that deflected off a fan's glove and back onto the field. Umpires reviewed the play and ruled fan interference, resulting in a triple.

New York Mets RHP Jeurys Familia blew his first save since last July when he allowed two runs in the ninth inning in a 5-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday at Citi Field.

Familia (2-2), who had saved 52 straight regular-season opportunities, the third-best streak in MLB history, allowed a game-tying RBI double to Yadier Molins and go-ahead RBI double to Kolten Wong that turned a 4-3 Mets lead into a 5-4 deficit.

"This is really a tough one to take," manager Terry Collins told reporters after of the game. "When you come back on Adam Wainwright and have a chance to win the game, that's a pretty big night. And then to have your closer, who just has been lights out, give up two, that's a little tougher to take."

Collins on World Series Game 1 00:11:45
Mets manager Terry Collins discusses the Royals' pitching, Tuesday's weather and the Mets' confidence going into Game 1 of the World Series.

Mets manager Terry Collins talked to media before Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday and said…

MLB has said Game 1 is expected to start on time, though he has no issue if they want to start the game under a light rain.

In the event tonight's game is delayed by rain, and it impacts Matt Harvey's start, Jon Niese or Bartolo Colon would be quickly called upon in relief.
