Super Bowl XLII

As far as Super Bowls go, last Sunday's Seattle-Denver was one of the least entertaining of the 48 that have been played. Many are still shocked it turned out to be so one-sided.

Sports Illustrated recently released their list of the Top 10 Super Bowl games, and the Giants appear twice on the list. ?Their upset win over the undefeated Patriots in XLII was voted No. 1 and the 20-19 victory over Buffalo in XXV was voted No. 8. (See list/slideshow)

From an objective standpoint, this list is fairly accurate. I agree with the selections for the most part. For Giant fans, XLII is not their greatest moment, at least in my mind.

No one will ever forget Giants' WR David Tyree's amazing catch vs New England in Super Bowl XLII.

Tyree only managed to play another year after his moment in the spotlight. In fact, that was his last reception as a pro. Since then, he's faded into the background.

But now, thanks to this year's rematch between the Giants and the Patriots, he's more relevant than ever.

A short flight to Boston and I am in enemy territory.

I did not attend the Super Bowl between the Giants and Patriots at the University of Phoenix in Glendale Arizona, but I am making the trip to Gillette Stadium Sunday to see these two teams get it on!

The Giants "Catch 42" Super Bowl win does not seem so far off in the past but in an NFL lifetime. Four years makes a world of difference who a football teams is and once was.

Since 2007, the New York Giants and The New England Patriots have grown older and more experienced with their franchise quarterbacks still leading the way.

I don't always agree with New York Times' columnist William Rhoden, and this is another example. In this video, Rhoden talks about how Eli Manning and Plaxico Burress will never again experience the high that they did on that February night in Super Bowl XLII.

I disagree. Manning is still in his prime and has the talent to take the Giants back to the Super Bowl. (And yes, I realize the same can be said for plenty of other players and teams around the league.)?Burress, I believe, will have a big year for the Jets (assuming he's healthy), and who knows where that will lead.

In a recent article in The Sporting news, San Diego Chargers' GM A.J. Smith said that he had no regrets about drafting - and trading - Eli Manning in 2004.

"He was a Charger for 45 minutes," Smith said "and that was too much time to be a Charger, in my opinion."

Smith was of course referring to Manning's openness about not playing for San Diego, a mindset that was said to have come from Eli's famous father and brother.

First off, we would like to take this moment to remember all of servicemen and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of this great nation.

For without them, there would be no America, no us. Americans are known for their resilience and passion. Nowhere in American life is that depicted more than on the gridiron.

With all this lockout talk and angst over whether there will be a regular football season this year, we bring you a short video to remind you what the NFL is all about.

Three years ago tonight, the Giants pulled off one of the most thrilling upsets in the history of the Super Bowl.

Highlighted by an improbable catch by WR David Tyree and a relentless pass rush, the Giants - who were 12 point underdogs vs the undefeated Patriots - shocked the football world by topping Bill Belichick's crew, 17-14, in Super Bowl XLII.

When leaving the field, MVP Eli Manning was as excited as Eli could get.

Five Minutes With.....David Tyree

Last night at the Filli Ponte restaurant in NYC, I attended a fundraiser hosted by In the Game Collectibles to benefit the Tomorrows Children's Fund.? In attendance were many current and former Giants players.? I will be posting the interviews one a time over the next few weeks...

Myself and Dr. Bill Chachkes (aka Dr. Football) sat down with Super Bowl XLII hero David Tyree, who is currently a man without a team after his contract with the Baltimore Ravens expired earlier this year.

Q: What are you up to these days?? It appears that you are in shape and ready to play. Have you been talking to teams?

The Giants are rumored to have interest in 5'9", 187 pound Wyoming running back Devin Moore, who is an undersized back with a combination of speed and strength. He projects to be a middle round pick despite not getting a combine invite. Moore ran a 4.37 and 4.35 in the 40-yard dash and posted a 10-foot, 9-inch broad jump, a 4.08 short shuttle, a 6.92 three-cone drill and 28 bench-press reps at the Wyoming Pro Day in the middle of March.

Check out the video below from Draft Guys for more on Moore.

In today's New York Times, Michael Strahan breaks down four key plays that led to one of the greatest upsets in Super Bowl history.

Among them is a play where linebacker Antonio Pierce, who calls the defensive plays, would wave his arms up and down to tell the defense to just line up and rush, basically a free for all, but while staying free of the ends.

The play was employed with 25 seconds left in the game, with the Giants having just scored the go-ahead touchdown, and Tom Brady was attempting to stage a last change drive of his own. Left tackle Jay Alfred took an inside route vacated by the center and caught a free lane to Brady.
