Syracuse's Eric Dungey threw three touchdown passes and Cole Murphy kicked a 30-yard field goal with 9:41 as the Orange stunned No. 2 Clemson 27-24 at the Carrier Dome Friday night.
It was 24-24 entering the fourth quarter. Clemson (6-1, 4-1) beat Syracuse 54-0 last season. Dungey was 20-for-32 for 278 yards.
Clemson's Alex Spence missed field-goal attempts of 35 and 38 yards. Syracuse outgained Clemson 440-317 and won despite committing the game's only turnover (a fumble)
Syracuse (4-3, 2-1) was coming off a home win over Pittsburgh . That was a big step toward gaining bowl eligibility and boosted confidence that had sagged after an unexpected home setback to Middle Tennessee and consecutive road losses to LSU and North Carolina State.
Syracuse visits Miami next Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
