After finishing the minor league season on the IL with Double-A Binghamton, Mets LHP prospect Thomas Szapucki will not pitch in the Arizona Fall League -- as was originally planned -- reports Tim Healey of Newsday.

Healey quoted a team official who said the Mets were going to give Szapucki's arm "a rest for a little while."

It is quite possible the Mets shut Szapucki down in the last few days of the season simply because of the amount of innings he had pitched in what was his first season back from Tommy John surgery, but there is no word yet regarding why he won't be pitching in the AFL.

Andres Gimenez, SS, Double-A Binghamton -- ETA 2020

Last time we looked at Gimenez, he had just three hits in his last 17 at-bats. Well those numbers didn't really change much.

Over the past week, the shortstop has four hits in 17 at-bats. He did have a solid game on July 31, though, going 2-for-2 with a homer, double, and a walk. Overall, Gimenez is slashing .243/.312/.375 so far this season in Double-A.

Andrés Giménez, SS, Double-A Binghamton (No. 2) -- ETA 2020

Pete Alonso remains listed No. 1 on MLB.com's list of top Mets prospects, but he sure seems well entrenched in the majors given his outstanding start to the season. So Giménez tops the Mets' farm system, and it was a good week for the shortstop in Double-A Binghamton.

The 20-year-old went 9-for-25 in six games, recording one homer, three doubles, three RBI, three walks and two stolen bases along with six strikeouts. He takes a five-game hitting streak into Monday's game at Akron, and he had three hits in two of those games. He did commit an error in his last game, his second of the season.

The standout performance came on Thursday, when he went 3-for-4 with a homer and two doubles. The homer was a blast to right field which left the stadium and went "across the street," according to the MiLB video description.
