The Mets have made some notable additions this offseason and should be better off for them. But while their ceiling is high, it's hard to put them on the same level as the Braves and Nationals. It's also hard to believe that they're done making moves.

Brodie Van Wagenen made a very necessary (if still a bit risky) bullpen addition by signing Dellin Betances. Rick Porcello has also been added to the starting rotation. By also adding Michael Wacha, the Mets have six starting pitchers for five spots -- a good problem to have. The only move of note on the offensive side of things was trading for Jake Marisnick, whose addition was more about his defense in center field than anything.

With just over a month to go until pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training in Port St. Lucie, the Mets' payroll for luxury tax purposes is roughly $195 million. When you factor in the additional money Yoenis Cespedes will receive if he is on the Opening Day roster or on the IL for a reason other than his ankle, that number rises to about $200 million -- $8 million shy of the luxury tax threshold.

The Mets, coming off their first winning season since 2016, have the makings of a team that should contend again in 2020, though that won't be easy to do in the fiercely competitve NL East.

To that end, they need to add more between now and the end of the offseason. And finding legitimate bullpen help is chief among the Mets' needs.

Still, it's likely that much of the 26-man Opening Day roster for 2020 is already in place. Factoring in the players already on the roster and what could happen between now and when things get going at Citi Field on March 26, here is our way too early 26-man roster prediction...

When pitcher Noah Syndergaard takes the mound on Wednesday for the Mets during their series against the Colorado Rockies, Rene Rivera will reportedly catch for the righty, not Wilson Ramos

According to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, the Mets will make that lineup change behind the plate.

SNY's Andy Martino confirmed a report from The Post on Sept. 9 that Syndergaard had previously voiced his frustrations with the Mets' brass in regard to him having to pitch to Ramos.

The Mets (77-72, 15.0 GB in NL East, 4.0 GB for second Wild Card) start a three-game series from Coors Field in Denver against the Colorado Rockies (65-85) Monday at 8:40 p.m. on SNY.

Mets Notes

The Mets fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers Sunday night, 3-2, after Seth Lugo gave up an RBI single to Jedd Gyorko in the ninth inning. Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil and Michael Conforto combined to go 0 for 25 together in the three-game series. Despite going hitless in 20 consecutive at-bats, Alonso (47) still has a shot at breaking Aaron Judge's rookie home run record (52) by the end of the season.

The Mets (76-70, 2.0 GB in Wild Card race) start a three-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers (95-53, 19.5 GA in NL West) on Friday night at 7:10 p.m. on SNY.

Mets Notes

The Mets are coming off a 11-1 win on Thursday that completed their four-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Juan Lagares was the star of the day, as he hit two home runs, including his first-career grand slam. Todd Frazier, Robinson Cano, Tomas Nido, and Michael Conforto all homered as well, setting a team record with six total home runs. Pete Alonso will get the day off, after going 0-for-5 with three strikeouts on Thursday.

Before Thursday night's series finale between the Mets and Chicago Cubs, a pair of positive injury updates came New York's way.

In the afternoon, MLB.com's Anthony DiComo reported that Mets Tomas Nido and Dominic Smith were set to resume baseball activities.

During last Friday's 2-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves, Nido suffered a concussion after a backswing from 3B Josh Donaldson, landing the Mets' catcher on the seven-day injured list.

After leaving Friday's meeting with the Atlanta Braves, Mets catcher Tomas Nido has been placed on the seven-day injured list with a concussion, the team announced on Saturday.

Nido was hit in the side of the head by the bat of Atlanta's Josh Donaldson as he followed through on a swing in the sixth inning. Nido left the game and Wilson Ramos replaced him.

The Mets called up veteran catcher Rene Rivera from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move.

Nido, the Mets' 8th round pick in the 2012 draft, had a disappointing 2013 season for Brooklyn. The Mets went overslot to sign him to a $250,000 bonus a year ago. I had him as my #29 Mets prospect entering this year before he hit .185/.218/.261 in 125 PA over 33 games for Brooklyn in the New York Penn League. Playing as a 19-year-old, he drew just four walks in 33 games, just 3%. On the plus side, his strikeout rate of 16% was solid. He's got some pop, but needs to develop his approach, as he talks about in the attached video.

Defensively, opponents were 53-for-60 running against him in 28 games behind the plate, a success rate of 88%. At just under two stolen bases a game, that's a lot of costly bases.

I originally had Nido a little higher and Verrett a little lower, but I'm happy with where they ended up.

I've been a little remiss on the box-score diving with respect to Kingsport the last two days, but I wanted to point out a few things.

- C Tomas Nido?can hit. The 18-year old had two hits both Sunday and Monday?and is up to .310/.383/.452 with five walks against eight strikeouts in 13 games. He has a long way to go as a receiver, but owns an average or better arm.

- Two Arms to WatchTwo guys who will have a really good chance to appear in the back half of my off-season Top 41 prospects list, Corey Oswalt and Chris Flexen made solid starts for the K-Mets this week.
