Here are the key 2018 MLB offseason dates, and how they impact the Mets...

Day after World Series ends: Free agency begins

Outfielder Bryce Harper and shortstop/third baseman Manny Machado headline the free agent class, and the Yanks are expected to have interest in at least Machado. But the Yankees' main need will be starting pitching help, and Patrick CorbinDallas Keuchel and old friend Nathan Eovaldi will be among the best arms available. When it comes to relievers, Craig Kimbrel, Adam Ottavino, and Jeurys Familia will be among the headliners as the Yankees could look to recreate their "super bullpen."

The Yankees are likely on their way to playing in the wild card game, and creating a roster for the winner-take-all contest is at the forefront of their front office duties. The Yankees will have to cover all the bases in a game that now has the potential to be played on the road against the surging Athletics.

Here are five questions the Yankees will have to answer when creating its wild card roster...

Who is the starting pitcher?

Yankees fall to Marlins 00:03:21
The Baseball Night in New York panel discusses the New York Yankees' struggles at the plate in the team's 9-3 loss to the Miami Marlins.

The Yankees had the early lead, but the Marlins' bats got red hot late in the game to split the two-game series in a 9-3 loss for the Bombers. >> Box score

1) The sixth inning is where everything went south for the Yanks. Lance Lynn was rolling through the Marlins' lineup through the first five innings, and the Yankees had managed to put two runs across the board. However, Lynn gave up back-to-back singles to start the sixth, and it would lead to one run coming across on an infield single by Austin Dean. The big blow was Miguel Rojas, though, who belted a three-run homer to take a 4-2 lead. Tommy Kahnle, then, let up a double to score another run.

2) Chance Adams, who was recalled from Triple-A in place of Aroldis Chapman, had an outing he probably would like to forget. He allowed four runs, three earned on four hits and three walks over 1.2 innings. He also allowed a homer to JT Riddle as well. He isn't making a good first impression in the Bigs with a 8.10 ERA.

The Yankees are bringing up some more bullpen help, as RHP Tommy Kahnle is reportedly heading to New York, according to Times-Tribune's Conor Foley.

Kahnle has pitched only 10 innings for the Yankees this season, as was dealing with shoulder and bicep tendinitis. He last pitched for the Yanks on Aug. 3 where he didn't allow a run in one inning against the Red Sox. He was, then, optioned back to Triple-A to make room for Chance Adams, who got a spot start in that Sox series.

It was a good sign to see Kahnle in control of his fastball and power changeup in his quick inning up in the bigs, and he will likely get the chance to prove he can stay in the coming games.

The Yankees have recalled RHP Tommy Kahnle from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, while sending down RHP Luis Cessa, the team announced on Friday.

Kahnle has had a rough 2018 in the big leagues as injury and bad outings forced him down to Triple-A. First, it was shoulder and bicep tendinitis that kept him out early on in the season. Upon his return, Kahnle didn't appear to be the same pitcher as last season, with his velocity down a bit and erratic pitchers.

Over eight apperances (nine innings), Kahnle owns a 7.00 ERA and 1.78 WHIP with the Yankees on the year.

Andy Martino, SNY.tv | Twitter | The Yankees and Red Sox played an early-season classic of a series this week, hinting at a thrilling summer to come in the American League East. It ended with a piece of intrigue to chew on: Was Aaron Boone wrong to send Dellin Betances out for a second inning of relief on Thursday night?

Betances has quietly become more reliable of late, but his initial assignment in this game served as a reminder of his reduced role. Boone summoned the onetime setup man in the seventh, with the Yanks trailing, 4-0. Betances pitched a perfect frame, then watched his offense erase the deficit by scoring four runs in the bottom of the frame.

There came the controversial moment...

Another injury has struck the Yankees as RHP Tommy Kahnle was placed on the 10-day DL with right shoulder tendonitis, the team announced Tuesday.

Kahnle has struggled in six appearances so far this season. He posted a 6.14 ERA and 1.64 WHIP with nine strikeouts and eight walks over 7.1 innings. He has also seen a drop in his fastball velocity with an average of 95.5 compared to 98.1 mph last season.

The Yankees don't see this DL stint as a big issues, though. Manager Aaron Boone says hopefully rest will have Kahnle back to his normal self.
