As I had been anticipating, the Jets used a lot of spread formations in an effort to expose the Colts to mismatches and this meant that Bilal Powell saw more playing time than Chris Ivory. Powell did some good things, but almost allowed the Colts back into the game with a late fumble that he was somehow able to recover that himself.

Perhaps benefiting from being fresher heading into the second half, Ivory finally started gaining?some yards, first breaking two tackles to turn what should have been a loss into a seven yard gain and then busting through the line with a nice cut, breaking a tackle at the second level and hurdling a defender downfield. By finally getting the running game going, the Jets were able to kill the game off pretty comfortably in the end.

The Jets have a decision to make between Matt Flynn and Josh Johnson as their backup QB. If they are willing to take a gamble, the Jets could save money on either of their contracts (Cimini, Sept. 4).

Matthew Cerrone: Wilmer Flores and Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki are having similarly productive seasons this year, both playing like shortstops worth $6-7 million. The thing is, from a Mets perspective, they already have Flores, whereas to get Tulowitzki they would need to give up significant prospects and take on close to $100 million in salary.

In the event Sandy Alderson can justify acquiring Tulowitzki, the Mets could always move Flores to third or second base, depending on the long-term status of David Wright and Daniel Murphy. I realize they don't want to keep moving Flores around the infield, instead letting him be comfortable in one spot. However, if the totality of the situation is what's best for the team, Alderson has to consider it.

In the end, my hunch is we see Tulowitzki traded, but not to the Mets. The more and more I listen to people in baseball talk about the potential of this summer's trade market, the more I'm convinced Tulowitzki will get dealt. And, if he doesn't get dealt, it may mean Colorado decides to never trade him. The Mets and Padres, among others, have long been searching for a shortstop. Tulowitzki appears to be healthy. And, it's shaping up to be a seller's market. The time is right, assuming the Rockies want to get on with rebuilding their organization. If they wait and he hurts himself again, they may never get this opportunity back.

Matthew Cerrone: The Mets have been rather inconsistent in their actions and public comments about their pitching staff. Initially, they had a?five-man rotation. Then six, but still five. Then actually six, with their pitching coach, Dan Warthen, saying it would last through August. Then, as quickly as the six-man rotation appeared, it went away, because, as Terry Collins said, 'It was a pain in the ass.'

Now, Dillon Gee is in the bullpen, with Jon Niese, Matt?Harvey, Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard and Bartolo Colon in the starting rotation. So, why all the confusion?

"The simplest explanation is that the Mets are trying to juggle a lot of issues that impact them now and in the future, such as Steve Matz?s Super Two eligibility, innings limits on a few starters and the temperature of their clubhouse if veterans such as Gee and Niese have their roles diminished," explains NY Post reporter Joel Sherman (June 8, 5:06 pm).
