The Giants "have just put their toe in the water again" for Charles Woodson, the veteran defensive back agent's tells ESPN's Josina Anderson.

Two days ago, Woodson left his visit with Denver without receiving a contract offer, but the two sides reportedly remained in contact.

In addition to the Broncos, Woodson, 36, has visited with the Raiders, the only team known to have made an offer to the free agent.

The Giants re-added safety Tyler Sash to the roster this afternoon, his suspension over for violating the league's policy on PEDs. That's the good news.

The bad news is another safety, Will Hill, has been suspended for the same infraction that shelved Sash and will begin a four-game stretch of his own this week. Both players tested positive for Adderall, which is on the NFL's banned substance list.

?I received a doctor?s prescription for Adderall prior to signing with the Giants,? Hill said as per the team's website today. ?Shortly after signing with the team, I was in a meeting with (director of player development) Charles Way, who reviewed the list of the league?s banned substances. I knew at that point that this may be an issue. I was tested and the results came back that Adderall was in my system. I appealed but lost the appeal. I accept full responsibility for this situation, and it won?t happen again. The Giants have given me a great opportunity when nobody else would, and I don?t take that for granted. I feel badly this has happened. I will work hard and stay in great shape these next four weeks so I can come back and contribute to this team after my suspension.?

The Giants' mash unit grew a little bit bigger Sunday night when safety Kenny Phillips suffered a sprained right knee.

The severity of the MCL sprain is still unknown. Tom Coughlin said his safety is week-to-week and will get an MRI.

It's a bad sign that Phillips was unable to re-enter the game, but X-rays did come back negative.

The secondary struggled throughout most of the regular season, ranking 29th in pass yards per game allowed with 225.1. Luckily, Eli Manning made a habit of putting up those same numbers?often better?against opposing pass defenses.

OK?well as long as no one was injured in the last ten minutes, I think I?m ready to unveil my final roster projection for 2011. We still have two preseason contests to go, but right around now is when the decisions start to become clear. So let?s jump right in with QB.

QB Keeping 2: In 2011, NFL teams now have the luxury of dressing 46 players on game day. This essentially means that the 3rd string QB is no longer an ?emergency option.? The Giants have chosen to forgo the 3rd QB all together since 2008, and I?m not so sure that changes this season. Obviously Eli is the number 1, but he heads up a current corps of 4 talented signal callers.

David Carr (first pick ever of the Houston Texans in 2002) is my favorite to win the job, and not just because he is less expensive than the other veteran alternative. Yes he is about 2 million cheaper than Sage Rosenfels, but he is also equally talented and more versatile. Quite frankly, I expected him to win the starting job in San Francisco last year and I still think he will be a starter again in this league before he retires. Rosenfels may also be trade bait for another CB (more later).

QB: A-

Let?s state the obvious. Eli Manning is the starter. Continuing with the obvious theme, Manning needs to improve.

I don?t want to hear one more excuse about the players around him, injuries, or any other outside factor. He is supposedly the chosen one, the franchise symbol. Yes, many of his interceptions last season bounced off receiver?s hands. Yes the run game bottomed out at times in 2009. Yes, two seasons ago he surpassed 4,000 yards in the air. It doesn?t matter. He?s being paid to be a leader. If a receiver can?t catch, teach him how. If a member of your offense is obnoxious and overbearing in the huddle/locker room, handle it.

For years now, the Giants have been trying to fill holes in their defensive backfield with high draft choices. They haven't had a whole lot of luck. Prince Amukamara, the latest attempt at an upgrade, is out for the foreseeable future with a broken foot, joining a long line of battered bodies before him.

In 2005, the team took CB Corey Webster of LSU with with their top pick. In 2007, the team chose Texas CB Aaron Ross with the 20th overall selection. The next season the Giants took Miami safety Kenny Philips in Round One and USC CB Terrell Thomas in Round Two. Last year, they took LSU safety Chad Jones in the third round.

The Giants have signed their seventh round pick, running back Da'Rel Scott, the first player signed from their 2011 draft class. Scott tweeted "off to work. G-men. Here I come!!!" and Mike Garafolo adds that the reason for his tweet is that a deal has been "pretty much agreed to."

Always good to get that first draft pick signing out of the way, and it's especially important to get everyone signed as early as possible this season, considering the amount of time lost.

Garafolo also adds that sixth round safety Tyler Sash is also close to signing a deal, and that the Giants signed fullback Keith Payne from Virginia. He will join fellow undrafted fullback Henry Hynoski out of Pittsburgh.

I wasn't so sure about this Tyler Sash, the safety the Giants drafted in the 6th round out of Iowa last weekend. Then, I did some research. By all accounts, and what I have seen, this guy can play the game of football.

Sash is the type of player the Giants need in their secondary and on special teams: heady, tough and motivated.

The passages below are from the Iowa Football blog Black Heart, Gold Pants.....

- The first thing you notice about this draft is speed.? The Giants lacked great team speed last season, and Jerry Reese clearly wanted to improve on that.? First round pick Prince CB Amukamara has solid, but not elite speed.? The same cannot be said for third round pick WR Jerrel Jurnigan and seventh round pick RB Da?Rel Scott, who are possibly the fastest players at their position in this draft.? Jurnigan should immediately be in the mix as the team?s return man, an area the team struggled with last season.? Scott has experience as a returner as well, but I doubt we?ll see him returning too many kicks with Jurnigan and a healthy Domenik Hixon.

- Another area that Reese improved was special teams.? Jurnigan aside, a number of the other draftees should help out on kick coverage.? Tyler Sash, Greg Jones and Jacquain Williams should all be special teams contributors.

- ?Prince Amukamara? was not the most interesting name to join New York sports on Thursday; that honor goes to ?God?s Gift Achiuwa,? who committed to St. John?s basketball.

The Giants have been searching for a safety to hang their hats on for years now. It's not from a lack of trying, either, but the Blue has just had minimal success in finding a presence in the middle of their defensive backfield.

This fact still remains, even though they have a Pro Bowl player back there in Antrel Rolle. ?No knock on Rolle, because he is one hell of a playmaker, but they still lack a player with the pop the team has so desperately needed for decades in their secondary.

The Giants have selected Iowa DB Tyler Sash with their second of three sixth round picks.

ESPN listed him as a CB, but he played strong safety in college. ?He was considered a third round prospect at one point, so it looks like another value pick for Jerry Reese. ?He should add more depth to a defensive backfield that is quickly becoming one of the deepest in the NFL.
