UConn head coach Kevin Ollie delivered on a promise to head to Newtown bringing the team along for a session with children at the Newtown Youth Academy.

The Huskies and the entire staff including former head coach Jim Calhoun, spent about 90 minutes with about 150 kids . The team held an autograph session, hung around with the children at the center and played some games.

The Newtown residents had birthday cake for Ollie, who just turned 40, and point guard Ryan Boatright (20). Boatright and Ollie were born Dec. 27.

Here's head coach Kevin Ollie on the experience.

"We know that this community is coming together and will prevail and we just wanted to go there and show our support, show them that our team and the whole state of Connecticut is behind them," Ollie said. "It was great for us to be able to see some smiles on their faces and to spend some time with them and do what we could. It was a great experience for our kids. We were proud and honored to be able to help.”
