His mother posted the news on Twitter. UConn has not confirmed his leaving:
Lubin's departure leaves the Huskies thin in the frontcourt and a short roster late in the recruiting process.
The Huskies, barring more departures, have C Amida Brimah and Phil Nolan and PF Kentan Facey. The Huskies also brought on PF Steve Enoch from Norwalk.
Lubin was little-used, but depth and numbers for the Huskies remains an issue. The big-bodied Lubin averaged 1.2 points a game, but had his moments down the stretch this season.
The Huskies also are bringing in PG Jalen Adams to help replace Ryan Boatright.
UConn has played short the maximum number of scholarships for years and has given scholarships to walk-ons with F Nnamdi Amilo and G Pat Lenehan when the spots went unused. Neither Lenehan or Amilio played any significant minutes this season, though another walk-on in Dan Guest was pushed into action.
UConn's roster right now, excluding Amilo, is as follows.
PG: Terrence Samuel, Jalen Adams
SG: Rodney Purvis, Sam Cassell, Omar Calhoun
SF: Daniel Hamilton
PF: Kentan Facey, Steve Enoch
C: Amida Brimah, Phil Nolan
That leaves the Huskies with three scholarship slots open for 2015. The Huskies could go after several grad transfers with one year of eligibility, hook on late with a recruit, or give the scholarships to walk-ons and turn them over for another year.
