UConn rallied from a 10 point second half deficit to take a two point lead with 2:13 to play, but Hugh Greenwood's 3-pointer sparked a 9-0 New Mexico run as the Lobos held on in the Paradise Jam finale with a 66-60 win over No. 21 UConn.
UConn's Ryan Boatright had given the Huskies a 55-53 lead after three free throws before Greenwood broke free at the top of the key for a 3-pointer. Chad Adams and Greenwood added back to back layups before Tony Snell hit two free throws for a 62-55 lead with 37 seconds left.
It spoiled another major effort for the Huskies, who trailed 51-42 with just under eight minutes to play before rallying. Shabazz Napier led UConn with 23 points while Boatright added 12 and Omar Calhoun 10. The Huskies only managed four points off the bench all game with Enosch Wold accounting for two baskets. The Huskies were out rebounded for the fifth straight game with a 30-24 margin.
Kendall Williams scored 15 points to lead New Mexico.Greenwood added 12 points for the Lobos, Snell added 11 and Alex Kirk 10.The Lobos held a distinct advantage on the free throw line going 21 of 21 to UConn's 7 of 9. The Huskies did make 39 free throws against Quinnipiac in a double overtime win on Sunday.
UConn returns to action on Sunday when it hosts Stony Brook at Gampel Pavilion.
