Sherriffs, a redshirt sophomore from Georgia, was widely expected to get the start over Tim Boyle following recent scrimmages.

UConn is expected to get a tough test from Villanova, which began the season ranked third in the nation in the FCS (former Division I-AA). UConn was picked to finish last in the six-team American Athletic Conference East. The division winners will meet for the conference title in December.
