It was a heck of a debut for University of Connecticut coach Kevin Ollie.
In the first game of the post Jim Calhoun era, Ollie spearheaded the undermanned, but far from out-manned Huskies to a stunning 66-62 win over No. 14 Michigan State at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany.
Shabazz Napier scored 25 points for the Huskies, who are ineligible for the NCAA tournament this season, and Ryan Boatright added 13 and DeAndre Daniels 12 for the Huskies. UConn hit 10 of its first 11 shots, and held a double digit first half lead to open up the season with a rousing win.
Ollie, who has only a one year contract as the university decides if he is the long-term answer, defeated a ranked team for his first career game after spending the previous two years as an assistant.
Keith Appling led Michigan State with 17 points.
