Brianna Turner said on Nov. 17 she was close to making a short list of colleges she would consider. That list came out Monday and the University of Connecticut is on it.

Turner, a 6-foot-3 junior forward wing from Pearland, Texas, will choose either UConn, Baylor, Duke, Notre Dame, or Stanford. She made the announcement on the website of her AAU team, DFW Elite Basketball.

"I would like to thank all of the coaches that put forth the time and effort to recruit me up to this point," Turner said on the website. "It has been a tremendous honor and privilege to meet and talk with many of the best women’s basketball coaches in the country. This made my decision to trim my list to five schools very difficult."

UConn coach Geno Auriemma went to see her play in the Texas Invitational on Nov. 17 in Pasadena, Texas, and Turner made an unofficial visit to Storrs last March.

Turner, a former AAU teammate of UConn freshman guard Moriah Jefferson, averaged 20.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.7 blocked shots as a sophomore at Manvel High. Last summer, she played for the United States national team that won a gold medal at the U-17 world championships.

After finishing tourney play on Nov. 17, Turner joked that all her U-17 teammates were trying to get her to join them.

"Next year, that will be me," Turner said. "It's only a year away. It seemed like so far but it is coming up quick. All my USA teammates have already committed and it's like, 'I just played with these girls two months ago and they know where they're going the next four years.' I don't feel any pressure. I'm just trying to find the best school for me as far as acadmeics and basketball."
