Following suit with the rest of the NCAA, the AAC men's basketball tournament was canceled due to coronavirus concerns.
Conferences around the NCAA like the ACC, SEC, Big Ten, Pac-12 and many others decided it best to cancel their respective tournaments, and now the overall NCAA tournament has been cancelled, as well as all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships.
"I think last night we had a pretty good sense that when we woke up today there would be the potential for this," UConn head coach Dan Hurley told the media via teleconference.
This "surreal 24 hours," as Hurley put it, has affected every professional league around the country as well. The NBA suspended its season as now two Jazz players in Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert contracted the virus. The NHL and MLS have followed suit in suspending their seasons, and it looks like the MLB will shut down their spring training with Opening Day in question as well.
This is especially a tough break for the Huskies, as they were a bubble team to make the big dance entering this tournament. After winning five straight games, they came into the tournament red hot at 19-12.
