The No. 4 seed Spartans knocked off top-seed Virginia 61-59 in the second game on Friday night.
UConn and Michigan State have been two of the better college basketball programs in the last 15 years and since 1998 have had several memorable games.
UConn last played Michigan State in Kevin Ollie's first game as head coach, a 66-62 win in Germany last season. The win was one of the highlights of the Huskies' season, which ended with no postseason with an APR ban. The Huskies also played Michigan State in the Maui Invitational in 2010 when Kemba Walker scored 30 in a 70-67 win in the semifinals.
The most consequential game between the two powers was in the 2009 Final Four in Detroit. Michigan State beat UConn in a de facto home game 82-73 before losing in the national title game to North Carolina.
The Huskies will be the "home team" at Madison Square Garden on Sunday afternoon as the Huskies look to make their fifth Final Four in school history and continue Ollie's ride in only his second year as head coach.
