UConn netted its first commitment of the 2020 recruiting class Wednesday and it was a big one.
The Huskies received a pledge from four-star Andre Jackson of Albany, New York, who gives second-year head coach Dan Hurley recruiting momentum before the 2019-20 season.
The 6-foot-6, 195-pound Jackson is the 247Sports Composite's No. 70 overall prospect, No. 16 small forward and No. 3 player in New York for the current recruiting cycle.
He jumped on his UConn offer over reported scholarships from Alabama, Cincinnati, Dayton, George Washington, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, UCLA and UMass.
Jackson's decision came after the last stretch of official visits, including Sept. 20-22 with the Huskies. He also took recent trips to Syracuse (May 3-5), UCLA (June 15-16) and Iowa (Sept. 27-29) before announcing his choice Wednesday.
"An elite athlete with tremendous size and length for a big wing," Jackson's evaluation on 247Sports said. "Has very large wingspan. Can make things happen on both ends of the court. Should be able to play anywhere from the two through the four depending on the system. Very good rebounder and a good slasher, which allows him to be productive despite not having a consistent outside jumper. On defense he has the potential to be elite, guarding any number of different positions."
