UConn is reportedly headed back to the Big East, and the school reportedly cleared one hurdle on Monday.

Big East presidents approved UConn's invitation on a conference call on Monday, CBS Sports' Matt Norlander reports, and UConn's Board of Trustees is reportedly expected to vote and approve the move on Wednesday. A formal announcement could come Thursday.

UConn, which left the Big East in 2013 to join the American Athletic Conference, would return to the Big East for the 2020-21 academic year.

The school would need to pay the AAC a $10 million withdrawal fee and provide 27 months' notice before joining the Big East, according to ESPN's Jeff Borzello and Mark Schlabach.

The move from the AAC to the Big East would impact all of the UConn teams with the exception of football. It is possible, according to ESPN, that UConn's football team could become independent or move to another conference given the Big East does not have football.

The UConn men's basketball team won seven Big East championships while the women's basketball team has 18 Big East titles.

In the AAC, the men's team has one conference title (2016). The Huskies were runners-up in 2014 and 2015, but won the 2014 national championship.

The UConn women's basketball team has never lost an AAC game, regular season or postseason, winning all six conference titles since the league formed.

UConn would be the 11th team in the Big East, joining Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, Villanova and Xavier.

UConn was in the Big East from 1979 to 2013.
