After getting the school's largest loss in over a century, Rutgers players and coaches said their defeat to Michigan was "embarrassing" and that the team is "hurt" emotionally.

Michigan's biggest win since 1939 came at the expense of a struggling Rutgers squad, which totaled just 39 yards, two first downs and punted the ball 16 times. The Scarlet Knights also went 0-for-17 on third-down chances.

"It just feels like playing a video game -- we just got spanked," senior DB Anthony Cioffi said, according to NJ.com. "We played hard, though. All four quarters. I love my brothers, but not the outcome we wanted."

PARAMUS, N.J. -- As the sun set on his nearly four-hour long football camp, Jim Harbaugh was still doing the same awkward dance he had been engaged in all day since he got to Paramus Catholic. At midfield he was once again asked to take a picture with a camper, this one younger and smaller than most. And again Harbaugh had to go through his usual lawyerly line of questioning.

NEW YORK -- Highly-touted NBA prospect Demetrius Jackson may have been earning Jerian Grant comparisons at Notre Dame this season, but it was junior guard VJ Beachem who shined when the lights were at their brightest on Friday.

After earning a permanent spot on the bench due to poor play during last season's NCAA Tournament, the Indiana native dropped a game-high 18 points on 7-of-7 shooting, leading the No. 6 Irish to a thrilling 70-63 win over No. 11 Michigan in a first round East Region game in Brooklyn.

"I'm really proud of him because a year ago, he didn't have a good postseason," Notre Dame coach Mike Brey said. "I didn't even play him in the NCAA Tournament. To have him deliver like he did tonight."

The University of Michigan hired UConn's Warde Manuel as its new athletic director on Friday, bringing back a well-regarded alumnus who once played football for the Wolverines - just like its coach, Jim Harbaugh.

The 47-year-old Manuel, who had been Connecticut's athletic director since 2012, was given a five-year deal by Michigan. The salary was not immediately disclosed.

"Athletics plays a key role in the UM community and beyond," school President Mark Schlissel said. "Warde Manuel knows how to succeed in the classroom, compete on the field and positively contribute to the social fabric of a vibrant university."

Michigan State is No. 1 in The Associated Press men's college basketball poll for the first time since early in the 2013-14 season.

The Spartans (9-0) jumped from third to a runaway first following last week's losses by then-Nos. 1 and 2 Kentucky and Maryland. Michigan State received 62 first-place votes Monday from the 65-member national media panel.

Kansas (6-1), which had one first-place vote, moved from fourth to second, while North Carolina, the preseason No. 1, jumped from ninth to third and received two votes for No. 1.

Talented yet untested, Connecticut now gets to see where its bolstered roster stands at the moment.

The No. 18 Huskies are part of a stacked field at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, where they open play Wednesday night against Michigan in a matchup of prominent programs coming off down seasons.

After following up its 2014 national championship by missing the NCAA Tournament last season, Connecticut (3-0) appears poised for a return to upper-tier status after adding graduate transfers Sterling Gibbs and Shonn Miller and heralded freshman Jalen Adams to a group of four returning starters headlined by 2014-15 American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year Daniel Hamilton.
