Former Giants LB Carl Banks, now an analyst on the team's radio broadcasts, took a swipe at the teams's manhood, togetherness and overall competency yesterday on?WFAN with co-hosts Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts:

[sny-box]?I think the most disturbing aspect of it is ? in all my years of being around the team, they?ve had some bad losses...They?ve had some highs and lows, and some good teams and bad teams. But I don?t think I?ve ever seen a team just not show emotion as they were just getting pummeled ? I don?t advocate fighting, but show some emotion. Show that you care that your quarterback was sacked six times in the first quarter.?

They don?t like themselves. That?s what it really comes down to. They don?t like each other. They?re not willing to fight for each other. When you have a premier quarterback in this league, and you don?t have enough self-respect ? not for him, but for yourself ? to protect him to do your?job, I think it speaks volumes. I think these guys really do need to all stand in (front of) the mirror, and it?s gut-check time.?

Head coach Tom Coughlin called in to the Mike Francesa Show on WFAN here in New York this afternoon to discuss the draft class of 2013.

On the overall perception of the draft:?"We feel good about the draft. I've always been a big believer that if you strengthen your offensive and defensive lines and create and have enough big people you have a chance to compete. We've got good players here, we supplemented with some youngsters that we really look forward to having them come in. We took the QB Nassib, who we were very high on, the grades were extremely high. He was the highest-ranked player when we took him, and then we added some guys at the bottom that are very, very interesting.

"Cooper Taylor, for example. A big safety who can run, is very smart who had a lot of statistics throughout his career. Eric Herman - a guy who'll fight ya, a battler who helped his team rush for 175 yards against Penn State."

Giants' coach Tom Coughlin is sitting at home playing the role of Grandpa to his grandkids this week instead of preparing for the NFC WildCard Playoffs. ?He hates to lose, as we all know. He is a stickler for detail and is not quite comprehending what happened to his football team, who fell one game short - again - of the postseason. ?He is at a loss.

From WFAN:

?Mike, I can?t even describe how it hurts,? Coughlin told Francesa in regard to missing the playoffs. ?I don?t know what to do. I?m walking around here like a crazy man. I don?t know what to do with myself. We shouldn?t be doing this right now. The pain of it is almost indescribable because your expectations are so high.?

You get into the playoffs, and then you try to get hot and make a run, that?s the goal. Guys understand that it?s tough, it?s hard to do that. And when you?re in this spot, when you?re in this position, you?ve got to take advantage of it because you don?t know if you?re going to get another chance. You don?t know what?s going to happen next year.

You don?t know what players you?ll have or if you?ll be on a different team, or the circumstances with injuries. A lot of things can happen ? It?s tough to make it and you?ve got to win big games, and at the end of the season you?ve got to be playing your best football and understand the importance of this.

Giants' QB Eli Manning appeared on WFAN Tuesday afternoon with Mike Francesa.

?We?ve got to score more touchdowns, we?ve got to score more points,? Manning told Francesa in his weekly spot. ?It can be frustrating because you feel like you played well. Afterward you kind of say, ?Hey, we hit big plays, we were great on third down, we ran the ball well, we threw the ball accurately.? ? (But) we still left some plays out there, and that?s the difference.?

Giants' WR Victor Cruz appeared on WFAN yesterday with Mike Francesa. He spoke about being the target of several hard hits this season and the need for the offense to adjust to a medium-range passing attack when the deep ball gets taken away:

"It?s something that we?ve hung our hat on, is making the big play and really changing the face of a game; making that long touchdown or having that long catch that really changes the perception of the game for us. But teams have been sitting back in that Cover 2 and not allowing us to do so, so we?ve just got to take our time and find different ways to beat the opposition.?

Giants' running back Brandon Jacobs, who criticized the home fans for booing the other night, appeared on the Boomer and Carton Show on WFAN this morning - not to clear the air - but rather to stand by those comments.

Our good friend and colleague Paul Dottino of WFAN always has some keen insight and tells it like it is. ?Here is his assessment of the Giants-Niners showdown this week:

Welcome to the NFL?s version of hockey?s neutral-zone trap: The San Francisco 49ers (7-1) rely on a power running game spelled by a short-pass attack, a rugged rushing defense and a very strong dose of special teams.

So exactly what are the Giants (6-2) getting themselves into when they head to Candlestick Park on Sunday?

Former Giant LB and current radio analyst Carl Banks is telling it like it is. He dressed the Giants down for their performance in the last minutes of Sunday's loss to Seattle is a way most analysts would never do.

Sometimes you just can't hide the truth. ?The Giants simply played some dumb football in the red zone with the game on the line. Instead of taking the game back from Seattle, they pissed it away by throwing an ill-advised pass instead of just running the ball... From Bob Raissman of the Daily News:

(Bob) Papa, the Giants/WFAN Radio Network play-by-play man, scolded Manning for "forcing the ball into traffic." Banks, the Giants radio analyst, had every right to do what 98% of these analysts do - kiss their own tuchis before going into I-told-you-so mode.

from our esteemed colleague and friend Paul Dottino of WFAN..his three keys to tomorrow's game vs Seattle...

The Giants already have gone through an emotional roller coaster this season and are coming off two dramatic come-from-behind victories. So where do they go from here?

The lowly Seattle Seahawks (1-3) are coming to town Sunday and the Giants need to bring their ?A? game to the table ? if for no other reason than it?s important for Tom Coughlin?s team to establish what they want to be. Sure, there?s a chance their ?C? game would be good enough to beat another inferior opponent, but they cannot think that way.

Yesterday, GFB posted audio from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, as well as thoughts about Goodell's current?stance on the lockout. It's important to note that the players have a?far different take on all of this,?one they don't appear to be backing down from any time soon.

"The players understand the fight that they?re in. Right now they don?t want to lay down and be forced to take a deal. They don?t believe that it?s fair. Second chances. They are not guaranteed, so they need to be utilized whenever they arrive.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin and quarterback Eli Manning were right in trying to turn the page the day after last Sunday?s devastating collapse against Philadelphia. Sure, the Eagles made like an iceberg and busted a hole in the bottom of the Giants? ship, but this doesn?t mean it has to sink like the Titanic.
