8/19/13: (7:17PM) The Rangers have begun alerting season subscribers, via Dom, about a window in which they can purchase tickets to the Stadium Series games at Yankee Stadium against the Devils and Islanders.
The team is offering tickets to season subscribers and doing so in two games packs and selling the same number of seats that the season subscriber has a Madison Square Garden. The seats for both games in the pack are at the same location.
The team will offer all season subscribers the chance to purchase tickets but in different stages. Priority to purchase is based on "current seating levels and tenure to allow equivalent access."
Was at the game and sat in section 113 right behind the philly net. Most of my section was NY ranger season subscribers, so it was nice to be surrounded by Rangers fans. The flyers fans that sat by me weren't to harsh, yea they gave it to use pretty good when they were up 2-0 but after that they were silent most of the night. Best part of the night was Larry, (who dances at mostly every rangers game) was 1 Section over and they played the song he dances too and our whole section erupted and he got up and did his dance. Philly fans didn't know what was going on so I explained to them who he was and they said, they had a guy who did that also. Later in the game they showed the Flyers guy who dances for them, he was awful and we started chanting LARRY'S BETTER!! LARRY'S BETTER!! It was a great game, and a great experience. Not easy to see the game but as far as how much fun it was I would def go again if the Rangers were involved, hopefully in NY.
The following is my review of the 2012 Winter Classic as fan without a ticket but with a great tailgating party and a victorious attitude.
As a partial-plan holder, my options to purchase a ticket were limited. As such, I did not attend the game but decided to accompany a co-worker and his friends to the ballpark for a tailgate party. I work in south jersey and my co-worker and friends are all Flyers fans. While I debate in my head how this will end, I arrive at the house for the convoy at 8:00AM and find several Flyers fans awaiting departure. The fans are calm, as it is early, and my Rangers gear is welcomed but they know I am the lone fan. I knew going into this event my attendance as a Rangers fan would be isolated but I forge on knowing that the men I am with are not only fans, but gentlemen, and their demeanor reflects their attitude.
As the part departs Hamilton, New Jersey, I am welcomed not only as a fan, but as an equal in this experience which anxiously awaits the game with great anticipation. Following the pick-up of the tailgate food at the local deli, we depart for Philadelphia. We get on the road quickly and following a brief stop in Burlington, New Jersey to pick up the final member of our party.
Season subscriber Cliff emailed me some of his stories and thoughts from his trip down to Philadelphia for the Winter Classic:
Had center ice seats - but last row of place - see pic with Linc in background.? Moved down to awesome 300 center seats in 3rd.
My 12 year old stirred it up with some Flyers fans with 2 minutes to go in game.? They told him to hit the Turnpike and go back to NY.? My son calmly said "no thanks - I'd rather stay and look at the scoreboard".? They went silent after that.
At Icethetics, Chris looks at why some of the jerseys design elements are what they are:
It's a very simple design but there's something about the oversized stripes that make the players almost look like kids. Not sure if that was intentional. But if it was, it's kind of brilliant. Part of the draw of the outdoor game is to recapture that feeling of children playing on the pond in tattered old sweaters. The vintage white adds to that, making the jerseys look unwashed.
The colors are from the Heritage jersey and Reebok and the Rangers came up with the design.
The Flyers Winter Classic shirts hit the internet yesterday and there is reason to believe that this could be the Rangers shirt and maybe an indication of the jersey that they will wear.
The eBay store is selling other officially licensed Rangers/Winter Classic merchandise that has been seen at the NHL Store, Modells and the Rangers Website. The seller is also a "top rated" seller on eBay and has 99.8% positive? feedback.
Darren Dreger passes along a rumor saying that the Flyers are in contention for the Winter Classic. He also mentions a rumor suggesting the game could take place, against the Rangers, on January 2nd in Philly.
According to Larry Brooks in the NY Post, New York Mets COO has spoken with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman about holding the Winter Classic at Citi Field:
"I've had several conversations with Commissioner Bettman and have informed him that we'd love to have the game," Wilpon, the Mets' COO, told us by phone on Thursday. "Gary has told me that he and his team will come out and do a site visit early in the year, so I know that we are going to be under consideration."
...Easily the best thing besides Jason Bay that the Mets have done this off-season.
Brooks quotes Wilpon as saying that the Islanders have very much interest in being apart of it:
