At Puck Daddy, Sean Leahy spoke with Chris Kreider about the chance that he had the past two seasons to play with Team USA at the IIHF World Championships.

Kreider played with Brandon Dubinsky and Matt Gilroy his first season and Derek Stepan and Ryan McDonagh last year.

On what he was able to learn at those tournaments, Kreider told Leahy, "A lot. Almost too many things to list. My first year, when I was 18, it was a lot of off-ice stuff and how guys carried themselves and conducted themselves away from the rink and in the locker room. Last year was the way guys played and the way guys prepared and the way guys performed on the ice."

At the United States of Hockey, Chris Peters writes that if Derek Stepan continues with his development, he will be an easy choice for USA Hockey for future World Championships and Olympic teams.

Peters says that Stepan's play was a "bright spot" for Team USA all tournament long.

I really hope that Derek Stepan never plays in the World Championships again. For that matter, I don't want any Ranger players playing in the tournament. If they are playing in that tournament it means that the Rangers either didn't make the playoffs or they got eliminated too early.

At the United States of Hockey, Chris Peters looks at how Chris Kreider performed for Team USA at the World Championships.

He gives Kreider a "pass" for the tournament due to his youth and thinks that even with his talent level, another year at BC will help him as a player.

The biggest thing for Kreider in this kind of tournament is to take it all in and learn from the guys playing in the NHL. Team USA had a young team, but it definitely helps Kreider that he gets to share a locker room with a guy like Jack Johnson and obviously with Derek Stepan and Ryan McDonagh. He needs to take what he learned in this tournament to BC next year and really dominate.

At Newsday, Arthur Staple spoke with Chris Kreider who said that he is unaware of the fans clamoring for him to join the Rangers next season:

"Really? This is the first I'm hearing of all that," he said. "I guess it's not too tough to stay away from that."
Over the weekend, Kreider told Staple that he didn't think he was ready to play in the NHL yet.

Most of that chatter has seemed to slow in the last two weeks as people have gotten to see Kreider play against men and have had the chance to nitpick his game. Some have even started to turn on Kreider. I am not one of them and I think that Kreider is still a highly skilled player and a big part of the Rangers future.

Derek Stepan has been outstanding for the U.S. as a table-setter. He?s showing a lot of poise in all areas of the ice, which you love to see out of a guy fresh off his rookie season. I had a feeling he would be a big-time player for this team and he really has been.

Thoughts:
  • Team USA looked pretty good, but I feel that they will struggle a little bit against better and more talented teams.
  • Chris Krieder was impressive, but, to me, he still looks very raw. He has all the tools to be an all-star and he used his speed and power very well in the game, but he needs a lot more seasoning before he can play a big role. If he does comes out, I think he would be ticketed for Hartford, but he does look like he can be a good player for the Rangers in the future.. This is just how I felt, others may think he is ready for prime time.
  • Derek Stepan started a little slow, but he and his line really came on to dominate Austria when they were on the ice. Ryan McDonagh, like always, was very solid.
