Overshadowed by Matt Harvey's?performance last night was Kevin Plawecki. The rookie catcher went 2-4 with three RBI in the Mets 8-2 win over the Yankees. Two of those three runs driven in came from his first career home run in the fourth inning off of CC Sabathia.

?It?s special, definitely,? Plawecki?said. ?Getting your first major league home run, it?s a big deal.?

Jacob deGrom was knocked around last night in the Bronx for six runs in only five innings of work.?DeGroms' 18 1/3 scoreless-innings streak, and more importantly the teams 11-game winning streak, came to an end last night.

"It's disappointing, because we were on a nice roll," Terry Collins said after the game. "I know the Yankees have been playing very well, but we're surprised when Jake doesn't have his good stuff and tonight he didn't have it."

UConn and Army's game at Yankee Stadium is 52 miles from West Point and a two hour drive from Storrs. ?UConn is trying to position itself as a New York team and the Yankees agree with that notion.

This morning on Leafs Breakfast on TSN1 1050, Darren Dreger recounted his experience at Yankee Stadium last night.

Dreger said that one of the highlights for him was "Cee Lo Green, I don't what was it, before the game, whatever it was, he was taunting Islander fans and boy did they turn on this short, little, stout man in a hurry. He would break into his own song and just stop and say 'the Rangers are gonna kick the Islanders asses' and they were outraged. So when he came up in the first intermission they put a slate up on the big screen at Yankee Stadium saying 'coming up next Cee Lo Green' and there was just this enormous 'boooo.' That was one of the highlights for me."

@myboystepan on twitter sends in this report, "I think unintentionally. He started by asking fans of either team to cheer. For the Isles, he kept saying "you may be outnumbered, but make some noise" or something of that sort. Later, he focused only on Rangers fans, and asking them exclusively to make noise, once saying "if you think the NYR will kick the NYI ass, make some noise" It wasn't clear if it was intentional or just a part of his overall poor performance skills."

Ryan Callahan said yesterday (MSG) that knowing what to expect from playing outside should help the Rangers tonight in their game against the Islanders at Yankee Stadium.

Callahan said, "you know the surroundings and the routines but it's a new game and new team and we play at night so it's a few new things to look forward to."

Brad Richards said on Sunday (MSG) that he thinks that coming into Wednesday's game with two points will help the Rangers and that they know to keep things simple because they have experienced the conditions and ice surface before.

Following practice today, Ryan Callahan said (MSG) that the ice at Yankee Stadium was "tough" and that being outside you expect it to be bumpy, rough and that the ice crew did the best they could with it.

Henrik Lundqvist said today (MSG), "I don't expect the ice to be at the same level as when we play at the Garden but playing outdoor,s it's a temporary ice and if the puck comes down maybe you put your glove behind the stick in case it bounces but I told the guys that on rims behind the net I may not play it as much in case it bounces but you have to kind of expect that. I thought the ice was pretty good though.... when it starts snowing it's a different feeling and everything moves slower but they were out there a lot clearing the snow so it was fine."

Brian Boyle said today that he didn't like how some people were complaining about the ice and that it was the same for both teams. He added that "obviously" with the rink being built in the middle of the infield of a baseball stadium the ice isn't going to be "normal." (Daily News)

The Rangers scored 4 goals in the second period last night against the Devils and 3 of them came off of odd-man rushes.

Patrick Elias said after the game on MSG, "they kept it simple and we didn't. They were pretty patient without the puck,we were trying to be over aggressive, got caught our guys on the forechecking in their zone and then they got odd-man rushes.

Kevin Weekes and Mike Johnston said on the NHL Network last night that the Devils went away from the their structure and fell in love with a speed game that they couldn't play.

Stats:

Adam's Thoughts:

  • ?This was a strange game with a lot of bounces but the Rangers came out on top and worked, especially in the second period, to get their bounces, force turnovers and score on odd-man rushes.
  • After the first the Rangers seemed to make an adjustment and started to push the pace and become the better team. They forced the Devils to turn it over and seemed to have an odd-man rush on every other shift. As the game went on the Rangers started to control the pace and play their kind of game.
  • Henrik Lundqvist struggled early, and admitted to Pierre McGuire that he wasn't really ready because of the delay, but got better as the game went along and kept the Devils from mounting any sort of comeback.
  • It's a lot better to look back on this game because it was a win, but this was a really important two points for the Rangers and a game they needed after dropping the last two.

Before the game on NBC, Alain Vigneault said, "okay men...we need to put our focus on the process. Just like we saw on the tape before the game, we know it's gonna be a greasy game, that is how this team plays. With the puck in our zone, chip and slash. In the neutral zone move the puck before they set up in the offensive zone before they swarm, move it east/west or low to high. We have to move it quick, if we don't have puck I want numbers coming back, I want numbers in our end and their top line, it's a good line and we need numbers and good sticks and body position. Shift at a time, go out and have fun, it's a great day to be here."

It has been announced that Martin Brodeur will be between the pipes for Sunday's game at Yankee Stadium.

The way Cory Schneider has been playing of late, from a sheer numbers standpoint, it would have made sense to give him the nod. Those numbers are exactly why Brodeur should be starting.

The Rangers are the road team at the two Yankee Stadium games because the tax exemption that allows the Rangers to skip paying property taxes stipulates that the Rangers and Knicks must play all home games at MSG or the exemption is forfeited. (NY Times)

The NHL reimburses the home team for a lost date at their arena and the NHL reportedly saves $1 million per game by reimbursing the Islanders and Devils over the Rangers since the Rangers get more ticket revenue per game at MSG than the Islanders and Devils do at their arenas. (NY Times)

Jagr also said that if the Rangers and Devils played in the playoffs it would be "great" to have all seven games be played outdoors at Met Life Stadium.

Gulitti adds "Probably impossible to have a playoff series outdoors because there wouldn't be enough notice to get building, set up ice, etc."

Henrik Lundqvist was a guest on MLB Network's Hot Stove this morning:

  • On the host calling him a superstar, "let's calm down a bit."
  • On playing at Yankee Stadium, "we are so excited, this is something we have been talking about for years. Ever since they started the outdoor games in the NHL guys have been talking about how cool it would be to play in NY and at Yankee Stadium. It's something I have been looking forward to for years. It will be a great atmosphere and something that you will remember for the rest of your life."
  • Ron Darling asks him if it will be harder to see the puck with the fans farther away from the boards, "I don't know if it's harder but it's different. We get one practice in so you get used to it and we played outdoors in Philly and the lighting is a little different and when the sun is out there is a little glare on the ice so it was tougher but it's something that you get used to when you are out there a little bit. The first half hour, hour or so it's definitely something that you have to adjust to."
  • On casual fans being interested in the outdoor games, "it's a great thing and we are trying a bunch of different things to try and grow the sport and this is one of them. People want to watch hockey but they also want to take in the atmosphere and everything. Playing in Philly, that game was such a great memory for me and now getting to play in NY will be even better. Even if you don't love hockey you will still have a great time because of the atmosphere and I think it's pretty cool to play outside and with that many people watching. It's great for the game."
  • On his mask, "I had a design going and then I changed my mind. At first I didn't have any Yankee flair to it but then I decided that I wanted to bring in and put some big time players that played a big part in Yankee history to salute them so we changed the design and I picked three guys that I think played a big part in their history. The Yankees, same with the Rangers, the organization has been around for so long that there are a lot of guys to pick from. I asked around a little bit just to make sure that I picked guys who really stuck out. I went with Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Joe Dimaggio and I think three guys who will get a lot of votes when you ask Yankee fans who they think should be there."
  • What will you do with the mask, "I think I will auction it off and raise money for Charity. Hopefully someone will bid on it and want that mask at home. I always want to keep at least one mask per year in my own collection but this mask is very special and it's something that we can do something special with so we will auction it off after the series."

According to Icethetics, the Rangers jersey for the Stadium Series games at Yankee Stadium is "white" and not a "cream" color as the Winter Classic jersey was.

He also posts a link to ebay listings which show how the Rangers Stadium Series jersey shirt looks.

The logo on the front is the Rangers Chrome logo that was designed for the game and Icethetics notes that while the colors of the numbers on the back are similar to the Rangers old Liberty jerseys this is a design that has never been used before.

Tickets for the Islanders and Rangers "Battle in the Bronx" (hmm, should totally trademark that) this January have gone on sale to Devils and Islanders season ticket holders. You can view the prices for the seating chart at the right but unless you're a season or partial season subscriber, you may have to wait until the tickets start hitting StubHub.

The tickets appear to have gone on sale over the past week on a sliding scale, depending on when the subscriber initially signed up (and for what it's worth, we've heard from some fans that the Ticketmaster website has been malfunctioning). For Islander fans who first signed up for season tickets post-1999, the opportunity to buy tickets started today at 10 a.m. From what we can tell, the first Ranger season ticket holders don't have access to buy tickets until tomorrow.

Ticket prices vary from $79 to $349.

Callahan was asked to name part of a lineup and picked:

  • Catcher: Henrik Lundqvist
  • First Base: Dan Girardi, "I would have to put Dan at first, apparently based on his background."
  • Second Base: Ryan McDonagh
  • Shortstop: Ryan Callahan, (with a smile) "I would obviously play SS. It's probably the most athletic position so I would have to put myself there."

The NHL has officially announced that the Rangers will play two games at Yankee Stadium next season.

They will play the Devils on 1/26/14 at 12:30PM and the Islanders on 1/29/14 at 7:30PM.

Rangers GM Glen Sather said, ?The New York Rangers are honored to participate in these two historic games at Yankee Stadium, bringing hockey into the home of another one of New York?s iconic sports franchises. Playing hockey outdoors takes the game back to its roots and reminds us all why we laced up our skates as youngsters. We are excited to be able to bring that experience and thrill to our fans and the city of New York.?
