Yankees skipper Aaron Boone said Monday that Gary Sanchez won't get back into the lineup until Friday, as he continues to deal with back issues.
Sanchez said he was feeling a "little tight, a little uncomfortable" in the lower and middle parts of his back on Sunday, as he sat out both split squad matchups the Yankees had. The catcher also missed Monday's game against the Phillies.
Instead of suiting up, Boone says Sanchez will do "catching stuff" and work in the bullpen while the Yankees are on the road.
Sanchez, who did note that his back was already feeling better on Sunday than it had on Saturday, decided that it was better to take care of the issue now than have it get even worse later.
"It's the right time to [take] care of anything, you don't rush anything especially in spring training when you have time. It's up to the trainers," Sanchez said.
