RF Aaron Judge was available to play Friday against the Blue Jays as the Yankees started the weekend's three-game series at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, but manager Aaron Boone erred on the side of caution before first pitch.
The Yankees replaced Judge with Cameron Maybin in New York's 6-5 loss (12 innings) to the Blue Jays, giving one of the team's top bats the night off until the final frame.
Pinch-hitting for Tyler Wade, who was the pinch-runner for Luke Voit after the DH's two-out walk in the top of the ninth inning, Judge struckout.
The late-game appearance came after Judge crashed into the wall in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader sweep over the Detroit Tigers.
Judge made an over-the-shoulder catch at the warning track in the bottom of the fourth inning, appearing to lead with his left shoulder as he braced for impact.
Judge came up slow, walking into shallow right-center field with CF Brett Gardner after recording the frame's third out and then jogging into the dugout.

"He's fine," Boone told reporters, including Marly Rivera of ESPN, before Friday's game. "When I left the ballpark (Thursday), I kind of planned on playing him (Friday). Then just being on the plane (Thursday), talking to some of the coaches, with him playing 18 innings, traveling in here on the turf, banging into the wall like he did, l just felt it was best to have him down. So I kind of decided on the plane and when we got off last night, let him know he was going to be down for the day."
After Thursday's doubleheader, Judge shrugged off his collision when asked about how he felt.
"Did you ask the wall?" Judge said, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.
Judge previously battled an injury stint when he was sidelined until June 21 with his strained left oblique.
Since his return, he has slashed .268/.374/.513 with 17 home runs and 38 RBI in 71 games.
On the season, Judge is slashing .272/.381/.515 with 22 home runs and 49 RBI in 91 games.
