A new book claims that Alex Rodriguez was allowed to use performance enhancing drugs in 2007 and 2008.The book claims that A-Rod asked Major League Baseball for an excemption to use testosterone during the 2007 season, which was granted. Testosterone is banned in MLB. He won the MVP Award that season. In 2008, he asked to use two drugs -- both banned by baseball -- and was allowed to use one of them during the year. That drug, clomiphene citrate is used to decrease fertility in women.The report comes from the book "Blood Sport: Alex Rodriguez, Biogenesis and the Quest to End Baseball's Steroid Era," by Tim Elfrink and Gus Garcia-Roberts. An excerpt of the book was published on on Wednesday.
