In its latest rankings, Baseball Prospectus has ranked SS Gleyber Torres as the Yankees' top prospect heading into 2017.
Torres hit a combined .270 with 11 HRs, 66 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases in 125 games between New York and Chicago's Advanced-A affiliates.
The Yankees acquired Torres from the Cubs in July as part of the trade that sent Aroldis Chapman to Chicago.
Here is BP's full list of New York's top 10 prospects:
- SS Gleyber Torres
- OF Clint Frazier
- 2B/SS Jorge Mateo
- OF Blake Rutherford
- LHP Justus Sheffield
- RHP James Kaprielian
- RF Aaron Judge
- RHP Albert Abreu
- IF/OF Tyler Wade
- RHP Chance Adams
I suspect Torres will rise to the top of each of the major publication's top prospect lists once they deliver their newest rankings. Torres' performance in the Arizona Fall League, where he won MVP honors, pushed him to the forefront of the Yankees' farm system.
Of the 10 players ranked here, four are new additions to the farm system since the 2016 trade deadline including Torres, Frazier, Sheffield and Abreu, who was acquired in the recent trade of Brian McCann.
It's also worth noting that despite a down season and some issues off the field, Mateo remains in the top-three in the organization. Finally, Judge is the only player on the list that has a legitimate shot of making the Yankees' 2017 Opening Day roster.
