Cameron Maybin lives to see another day in pinstripes.
The Yankees announced that Nestor Cortes Jr. was optioned to Triple-A Scranton after Thursday's 10-6 win over the Astros as they open up a roster spot to welcome Aaron Judge back from the IL on Friday.
By keeping Maybin, the Yankees will carry four bench players and 12 pitchers, which includes two extra outfielders.
The 32-year-old is hitting a slash line of .308/.386/.496 with five home runs and 14 RBI in 41 games. He is 10 for his last 26 with four home runs and six RBI.
Maybin is also out of minor-league options, so the Yankees would have had to waive Maybin if they were to make him their roster move for Judge. With how well Maybin has been playing it would have been unlikely for him to clear waivers without another team putting in a claim.
For now, Maybin stays as the Yankees' lineup returns to full health.
