Three Yankees pitching prospects, including No. 4 prospect Deivi Garcia, threw a combined no-hitter for Double-A Trenton on Monday.
Garcia struck out nine batters and walked two in five innings, while Domingo Acevedo and Daniel Alvarez both threw two hitless innings as the Thunder beat the Reading Fightin Phils 7-0, the fourth nine-inning no-hitter in franchise history.
The 20-year-old Garcia maintained his dominance since his promotion to the Double-A level, retiring 11 straight batters after a leadoff HBP.
Including his previous start, when he struck out 15 batters in six one-hit innings, Garcia is 2-0 with 24 strikeouts, one hit and three walks in his last 11 innings.
He lowered his ERA with Trenton to 2.68. Factoring in his four starts with High-A Tampa, Garcia is 4-4 with a 2.78 ERA in 13 starts this year.
In the ninth inning, Reading's Luke Williams nearly broke up the no-hit bid when he reached on a fielder's choice to second baseman Hoy Jun Park. But Alvarez got Arquimendes Gamboa to line out to center to seal it.
