Yankees SS Didi Gregorius didn't make the start on Friday night in Seattle, but manager Aaron Boone still got him to make his return against the Mariners.
Gregorius took over at shortstop in the bottom of the sixth inning, and will hit in Miguel Andujar's slot. Adeiny Hechavarria, who started the game at short, shifted over to third.
He already tested out the heel as he attempted to make a bare-handed play to get Jean Segura at first. However, Luke Voit couldn't make the scoop to end the inning. Gregorius didn't look to be in any pain, though, as he sprinted in to get the grounder.
The 28-year-old Gregorius missed 15 games with a bruised left heel, but has shown enough progress to return to the 25-man roster. Boone didn't want to start him tonight due to the fact that he didn't participate in any rehab games.
